i have been complaining about the noise from my PRS1 960TS with heated tube humidifier since the first night I used it a year ago.
I used an S9 Autoset for 3 years prior to switching and never heard a sound.
Following the orders of my new sleep doc I ordered a non heated hose so I could test the machine without the humidifier attached. Well that went great. As soon as the machine turned on I started looking for the diesel locomotive that was blowing its horn. So I went and retrieved the humidifier/ muffler thankful for how "quiet" my machine could be.
Have I got the only noisy 960 or is that just the way they are?
Would I gain anything by insisting they replace this noisy one with a quieter one?
I am learning to sleep with the noise but I still feel fatigued and need a nap most days. The noise may be a contributing factor.
I also use 3 L O2, but my concentrator is in another room with a closed door in between, so I don't hear it.
Is the Resmed AirCurve likely to be quieter?
Is this a battle worth fighting or should I be happy with my low AHI bellow 3 compared to my sleepstudy of 84.

Re: Noisy PRS1 960
I have a ps760 and my wife has a 560 . the 760 is much louder ... because it is putting out more pressure and cycles between two different pressures .
If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

I agree with grayghost--my 960 is louder than my 560. It works a lot harder and can't help but make more noise. I wear earplugs. You could also move the machine farther from your head, or put it in a drawer or behind something. Be sure that the air intake is not blocked, though.

Re: Noisy PRS1 960
Can you ask your equipment supplier if they happen to have a loaner 960 you can try?
I don't know if they will...that's such a high end specialty machine.
Don't know about the new AirCurve but it's going to be a while before they are out on the market anyway...the ASV type of models are usually the last to hit the market.
I can hear my S9 Adapt...it isn't horribly loud but I can hear it.
I have never been able to test out a 960.
My 760 machine was no louder than my S9 Adapt though.
