Another CPAP newbie. Thankfully I found this forum before I went back to second sleep doc appointment and was able to get them to prescribe a Resmed S9 Auto. The DME played ball as well so I got a good setup.
I was prescribed 16cm of continuous pressure but was given an APAP because I am having a gastric bypass surgery soon and my needs will change.
First night was terrible I made it about 2 hours before I tore off the mask. I felt like I was pulling the air through a straw.
Second night I changed to APAP with a range from 5-16. Made it 4 hours but still had that suffocating feeling.
Yesterday I decided I was going to "dial things in" and upped the minimum pressure until I got comfortable. 10cm seemed to be the magic number. I laid in bed for 90 minutes and was really comfortable. Last night I had it on all night and slept great. AHI of .9 and average pressure on 12.4.
My question is will my sleep doc get pissy I changed my prescription?
Thanks to Pugsy and members here for a great education.

Probably not and if he does...who cares..you are the one having to sleep and be comfortable.crashman2600 wrote:My question is will my sleep doc get pissy I changed my prescription?
I doubt he will have a problem though...your pressure needs are obviously a lot higher and when a doc pretty much gives the open range it leaves open the door for the minimum to be adjusted closer if needed...after all it's in auto mode with a range to where it can go...who cares if you get there sooner with more minimum.
Besides...you would just need more minimum anyway to be effective.
