areophagia help please
I have been useing a cpap machine for three years. About five. Months ago I begin to have what I was describing as a shortness of breath. I went to my primary care physician and was referred to a cardiologist. Ended up having a heart Cath. I was cleared for heart issues. Was referred to pulmonary doc who tryed to diagnose me with asthma. Then I realized I was not describeing the feeling correctly. Was a spasm like feeling in my diagram, with extensive gas problems. Was referred to gi doc and had endoscope. Was cleared from what I thought was hiatus hernia he had me start prilasec daily. This made the spasms stop but continued to have extreme burping and farting issues then happened across the areophagia topic when trying to find symptoms match on Google. Never occurred to mee it could be my cpap causing this. Three years of good night, my numbers are good on my reports so I don't understand what changed. My machine is at 13 pounds preassuure. I use a Chin strap to cut down leaking. I have an appointment in couple weeks with pulmonary doc. I'm thinking I need an auto cpap to cut down on preassure or bipap. I need my doc to prescribe it for my insurance to pay. I'm very frustrated and anxiety is driving me insane. Any suggestions would help? Do I need a auto or bipap or something else? Please help a newbie!
Re: areophagia help please
You might try reducing your pressure a little....try 11 for a few days.

Re: areophagia help please
I thought about that, I have a Fisher sleepstyle 200.I don't now how to adjust the pressure. My sms set it and did not show me how to change it
Re: areophagia help please
The clinical manual explains how to change the pressures. You can request the manual for your machine here
http://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-p ... tup-manual
Without efficacy data there's no way to know if a pressure reduction has any great impact on therapy though except by going how you feel.
Sometimes there's a fine line where aerophaga stays away...might be 12 or 12. 5 or 10 or 8.....it's highly individual and no hard fast number that fits everyone.

Re: areophagia help please
I went through a lot of aerophagia before getting bi level machine. Sorry, might be better to keep machine at 13, so the doc can say you failed CPAP, which means he can prescribe a Bi-Level machine. Really there may be more in what your doc is doing than first appears.
If you are really well off. Just get a Bi-Level machine on your own, and let your doc/DME to give you settings.
You could try, EPR or such at three, or so. EPR is not the same as BiLevel.
