Craigslist was useful for obtaining a backup machine

Post by PlinkerCraig » Sat Sep 27, 2014 3:59 pm

I've been using my Respironics 460P for about ten days and I'm feeling like a new man. Thinking it would be nice to have a backup/travel machine for my frequent business travel I took a look at Craigslist and found a nearly identical 560P with only 43 days of usage (guy lied saying it was used 1 day, but OK). I bought it for a very low price and I'm happy to have a backup now that I think I cannot sleep without it.

The guy left his SD data card in the machine. I can see why he hated it after only trying to use it for 43 days. I think his doc set it up poorly or he has other more serious problems. I was able to go into the clinician's menu and set it to behave identically to my original machine for my use now.

I did find something I had to fix. The data card tells me it has been sitting unused since November 2013 with a tank full of water in the humidifier. I considered using CLR! but... I tossed the chamber and hose in the trash after seeing the pond water and I have new ones on order for about $35. I added a filter to my order to go between the humidifier and my new hose.

Thank you to folks here for suggesting Craigslist since I've only used it once before and about eight years ago to give away some furniture.

Heh. Don't forget if you buy another one face-to-face to check the run hours. You can also test to make sure the humidifier preheat works. When I did these two things my seller asked me if I was an RT. Snort.

She had left water in the humidifier chamber for months too.

Thanks for the good advice Dancer. I was pretty lucky with a good buy this time.

If I had a 460 and a 560 the 560 would become my daily use machine. The 460 be my travel / backup machine.

I would be able to set a range of pressure and potentially improve my therapy.

Bwexler, thanks for that thought.
I also gave that switcheroo a bit of thought. But so far my logic is not to break what I have working fantastically well. And I'm just a newbie, only on my 460P for ten days, still needing to learn everything. My Rx setting of CPAP mode at 8cmH20 is working amazingly well for me.
On the other hand I am an engineer. And we like to fix or improve things when we aren't inventing new things. So I'm sure I'll dork with the Auto mode at some point.

Question is - is compliance required?

I'm on a high deductible health plan and not likely to spend my deductible this year. So everything I do right now is out of my own pocket. I don't care if I comply with anything or anyone.
