Is Resmed Elite really better than PR Remstar Pro

Post by msr27 » Tue Aug 19, 2014 9:40 am

Newbie here. I really don't like my PR Remstar pro. Been fighting with DME for a different machine. My insurance says i can get a Resmed S9 Elite. Is it really a better machine, more queit, etc? Thanks.

I have a Resmed S9 Elite and a PR S1 60 Series Remstar Auto DS560.
I feel the Resmed Elite is much quieter than the PR Remstar.
The sound from the Remstar changes in pitch when I inhale and exhale.
The sound from the Elite never changes pitch. It's just very very quiet.

Your mileage may vary.

I have commented about this before; but cannot find the post. It might have been deleted by someone in charge! At any rate if you are using a PR at low pressure; there is no sound. The S9 stays the same. That can be a disadvantage for the S9. In my case I used a ramp starting at 7. It was much quieter than the S9. Only when I am asleep does the sound increase. If you put the PR at knee level and not at head; there is no problem and it's quieter than the S9 when you have events.

Why or why not?
Both models "blow air", both are fully data-capable and both are subject to "the luck of the draw" (some from each manufacturer have noise issues or have their own particular quirks).

The Elite has a color screen, with more data available;
but battery power requires proprietary, costly, optional equipment, while PR machines will run on ordinary 12 volt DC current.
The cost difference may be more a reflection of the companys' pricing strategies than of functionality of the machines.
Just saying.

I find quite the opposite, my bedmate runs 6-8ish cm, and when using the prs160 auto, I could hear whining up and down with each breath.

stuck that little siren in the closet and installed my backup vpap auto, same pressure settings, and no whine sound.

it's not loud there, with the prs1, but it was there.
