not sleeping due to leak noise

Post by cpot » Mon Aug 18, 2014 12:53 pm

I cant get thru the entire night without waking up to leak noise from my mask? I have been wearing my mask for 7 years and can count on one hand how many good nights sleep I have gotten. Do full face masks work better?

Better than what?

Have you been replacing the cushions or pillows during that time?

In general full face masks are the most challenging as far as leak management because they cover the most surface area of your face -- therefore more 'territory' where a seal has to be maintained.

If you've been having trouble for 7 years you ought to register on the forum here, list your equipment (like most of us have in our signature boxes), and give us more specific information about your history with your cpap mask/machine so we can try to help you in a more informed way.

Full face masks are the only type I've ever used. I have used (and many years before starting this therapy) a "Chiroflow" water-based pillow.......which is sort of firm but still soft enough to be comfortable.......and I can adjust the height of the pillow by varying the amount of water in the pillow.
However, bed pillows can make a huge difference in the success of this therapy. Typically, "standard" fiberfill pillows allow the user's head to sink too deeply into the pillow and that can push the mask out of alignment, causing leakage.

Do you have a data-capable machine? If you do and review your nightly data, you should be able to see how big of a problem you have.

I found mask liners to help considerably with the leaks from my full-face mask. These days, after nearly 6 months on cpap, I have only minimal leakage and rarely experience large leaks. The best part is, the noisy face farts are gone altogether, and I rarely wake up from leaks. Karen at Pad-A-Cheek has nice ones, go here: http://www.padacheek.com. You could also try RemZzzzs, which are what I use, and those can be ordered from our forum sponsors at https://www.cpap.com. Your DME may also supply RemZzzz.

Now using AirFit F10 mask; Quattro Air is backup mask. RemZzzz mask liners with both.

If your leaks are that bad you need a mask liner. Go to padacheek.com and find the one for your mask. I can't believe someone would go through 2500 bad nights without seeking help from this site, your DME or your doctor.
