You'd have to be crazy to want to repair a broken xpap that's more than 5 years old and unless it's a minor problem, you're unlikely to repair anything more than about 3 year's old. So long as the manufacturer stays in business, I doubt that parts and service will ever be a problem.sc0ttt wrote:One possible reason for wanting the newest machine is that parts and service might be harder to get in the future for the older machine - I doubt that's much of a factor in this case.
And Chris - if all your nights are as good as the one in the chart you posted (except more sleep time) you're doing extremely well... that machine works for you.
Got a new s9, Kinda mad since the s10 just came out

I'm workin' on it.

Insurance used to be willing to replace even a working machine after 5 years. That's getting rare.Hose_Head wrote:You'd have to be crazy to want to repair a broken xpap that's more than 5 years old and unless it's a minor problem, you're unlikely to repair anything more than about 3 year's old. Also the current model CPAP machines are enormously advanced vs. 5 year old models. I think the pace of innovation has changed. 2020 model machines probably won't be enormously more capable than 2015 models, although I might be pleasantly surprised.
BTW, what year did the S9 and PRS1 come out?

First PR S1 was in late fall 2009.archangle wrote:BTW, what year did the S9 and PRS1 come out?
The S9 was sometime in 2010...don't remember exactly as I was away from the forum at that time but I know the S9 wasn't available yet in Jan 2010 when I was envying the PR S1 machine but software wasn't available yet for it so I waited.

Thanks. So the PRS1 is 5 years old. The 60 series added a heated hose option, but wasn't a quantum leap. S9 is 4 years old. The A10 is somewhat improved, but not a quantum leap.Pugsy wrote:First PR S1 was in late fall 2009.archangle wrote:BTW, what year did the S9 and PRS1 come out?

It seems to me that someone with an original PRS1 or S9 doesn't have a really big incentive to upgrade to the latest model right now, and there's probably not going to be another big revision of models in the next few years.

Try to avoid that slippery slope if you can.
I am an example of that. Very hard to break. And strangely, when I am sleeping within ear shot of somebody, I don't dare sleep without it. I have only fallen asleep without it once, and I was actually in the process of putting it back on when I fell asleep. But at home, in my own bed, it is easy to fall asleep without it, or have a problem, take it off, and then sleep without it.
And I assure you the punishment is there every time as I feel like crap without it and wish I had used it all night.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

My take on this is that xpaps tend not to be something that you show to your friends and neighbours, like a new car, so that they can oogle over it. So unless there are functional differences between them, who cares if you have this year's or last year's model . As they say, your mileage may vary ...
Very funny!
