PRS1 heated hose question
I got the upgrade kit so I can have a heated hose, and the first time or two I used it, the hose got snuggly warm, and I don't THINK I had it on high...maybe middle setting? Now I can't get it to warm up. The humidifier plate warms, as usual, though, and I get jungle rain through my mask. I'm not sure if it's the hose or the lid. It seems to me that the plugs are tight. I'm using the cigarette plugin, and I BELIEVE it's an 80 watt supply source, isn't it?? I could swear the hose warmed for me once using this, but I'm a bit fuzzy today.

Re: PRS1 heated hose question
Even set to the highest setting my PR S1 heated hose didn't feel all that warm when I just wrapped my hand around it.
Are you in the truck now? Are you using APU?
Are you just getting the rain out in the mask now or is it in the hose too?
Have you confirmed by going into the clinical menu that the machine is recognizing the heated hose as being plugged in?
Remove the heated hose and plug it back in and watch to see if it gets recognized so that you have both settings available to set.

Re: PRS1 heated hose question
The "cigarette plugin" is just a cord, and it should be able to handle 80 Watts (or about 7 Amps at 12V). I recall it has a 10 or 15 amp fuse in the tip; if so, it could pop if overloaded, but you'd get no power in that case. I'll check mine the next time I'm on the boat. I confess I've never used the humidifier or heated hose with the 12V cord, but it should work.Tatooed Lady wrote:I got the upgrade kit so I can have a heated hose, and the first time or two I used it, the hose got snuggly warm, and I don't THINK I had it on high...maybe middle setting? The issue is whether the 12V supply you plugged into can supply the current needed. A large battery or power supply should be able to, but a small battery or a trickle charger might be limited to 1 to 2 amps. You'll have to tell us more about your setup.
BTW, most of the time, I don't feel any warmth from my hose on my home setup.

Re: PRS1 heated hose question
okay, so I should upgrade my information for this to be clear, sorry.
I run my system in a 2014 Freightliner with a full battery bank dedicated to running the climate controls and whatever other odds and ends need power (I LOVE this truck...8 cigarette plug outlets! WHEEE!!!). I plug in the unit, snap on the hose, and yes, it gives me the heated hose menu. I don't feel heat rolling OUT of the hose, but when I grabbed it the one day just after I got it, it WAS warm to the touch. Not HOT, but warm. Now the only warmth I feel is if I grab near the humidifier, when that's on full blast...that's just residual heat from the plate heater, and is barely warm.
I'm not sure how far down the hose the moisture collects, but I know it's been bad enough that I've gotten flicked in the nose with cold water in the middle of the night. How RUDE. I'm at home now, and will be testing the hose here, but I would THINK it should be drawing a small enough bit of electricity that my truck could EASILY run the entire unit off the one outlet.

Re: PRS1 heated hose question
if you've got a DVM handy (not to be confused with the DMV) and can ohm out the contacts on the hose, ... maybe? I have no idea how many contacts there are, or anything... my prs1 doesn't have the heated option. so, I'm just wagging here.Tatooed Lady wrote:okay, so I should upgrade my information for this to be clear, sorry.

Re: PRS1 heated hose question
palerider, thanks. I loves me my Freightshaker...she makes miles instead of shop hours.
I'm using the direct plugin, no inverter, do not collect $200, do not pass go. I even bought a backup plug, in the event of meltdown. Can't afford the downtime, so I err on the side of paranoia. It's comfortable here, but expensive.
I just spotted something else odd..now it says I'm locked out of the heated hose humidification, even in the clinician menu. I tried turning other settings off and on, to see if it's a setting thing, but no luck. and the little humidifier light (blue/white with plain lid, orange with the new lid) was flashing for a couple minutes. Oh, this is just FUN all the way around. Sheesh.
I'm also testing the hose here at home, now. Maybe it's like trucking. Operator error.

Re: PRS1 heated hose question
Ok...The at home test shows at least one part OE (operator error). I needed to swap to the big power block. No problem...HERE. That clears up the flashing light AND makes the tube warm up appropriately and quickly. However, in my truck I may need to run a small inverter at night to power the heated system...I wonder if the company would hardwire a little one for this purpose...interesting. I'm assuming for now that the lighter plug won't handle the extra draw.

Or is it the wire that you are using?Tatooed Lady wrote:I'm assuming for now that the lighter plug won't handle the extra draw.
Re: PRS1 heated hose question
try detaching the humidifier from the blower, and snapping back together, and check the connections where the hose clips to the humidifier, maybe there's a dirty connection and it's not registering that it's on.Tatooed Lady wrote:palerider, thanks. Re: PRS1 heated hose question
A fully charged truck battery should have plenty of juice to power a cpap, even with full humidity and heat. Unless someone skimped on the wires, or there's a bad connection, the power should be OK.
Rainout is caused by humid air hitting a cold tube, so perhaps the problem is too much A/C.
