aye, I'm sure you've been an annoying, unhelpful, trouble causing ass for quite some time... maybe here, maybe elsewhere, but who knows, since you're too cowardly, or lazy, or stupid to make an account and sign in.

I'll be here when you get tired of removing that modem to get access to "your data" everyday
and when you learn that data on the screen doesn't compare to the software.

Just remember who "tried" to warn you and those who wouldn't bother.

There are 38 guests on the site as I type this. Why should anybody assume that the guest who posted this message is the same as any other guest who posted a message. If you want people to know that some posts are the same "guest", the pick a name (any name, even guest1) and then people will know which posts go together.

Otherwise, we have no reason to assume that any guest has been here any longer than today. Any guest post could be from a newbie, a troll, whatever. There is no way for us to recognize any guest.

If you feel that is a problem, fix it.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

rdavidp,

Sorry you have been subjected to a few posters in your thread as a newcomer who are trying to out troll each other.

Agree with NickDanger that eventually, you will get used to the pressure. Just give it time.

Let us know how you are doing and lots of luck with your therapy.

Just had my very first night of sleep on the CPAP. Obviously I ended up having no problem with the air pressure, as I fell asleep pretty soon after laying down and stayed asleep the whole night. I was getting up at least twice a night every night to go to the bathroom, and not in a "I am awake so I might as well go" but more of a if I didn't go, I would have an accident in bed when I fell back asleep. I do not remember waking up once, and when the alarm clock went off, I was not hitting snooze for a whole hour. I woke up without my heart pounding, my lungs feeling like I had ran a night long marathon, and I am not dragging around barely able to function.

My sleep data just from the info display screen said my AHI for last night was 3.2, original diagnosis was AHI of 97.6. 2.6 total apneas last night, 0 central, original diagnosis was 281 total apneas, 0 central. Leak rate was 22 l/min. I slept almost six hours.

Is that leak rate ok? I have updated my equipment list in my signature to be current.

Leak rate is ok, you want to be under 24 for the S9 autoset. You might want to play with the mask fit feature on your cpap and see if you need to do adjusting. If you can look at the data with software you might be able to spot if the leak is all the time or at certain points in the night.

But it sounds like you are off to a good start.

Congratulations.

You're leak level is within acceptable limits as it wouldn't be considered excessive until you hit 24. Even though it is almost outside the acceptable range, I wouldn't worry about it if you feel you got a good night sleep. If you don't feel you did which I am not inferring from your post, then it would be worth trying to improve that area.

The leak number reported on the S9 machines is a 95% number and that means the leak was at OR BELOW that number for 95% of the time. People tend to forget the "or below" part of the definition. Even a 95% leak number over 24 L/min doesn't necessarily mean it was a horrible night in terms of leaks. When you get the software and learn how to use it an evaluate the leak line graph you will see what I mean. I won't go into lots of details right now about it unless you want me to.
In general if the 95% number is below 24 L/min and leaks didn't wake you up.....I consider that a successful night in terms of leak control and I don't worry too much about nit picking the leak data. ResMed says that the machine can compensate for leaks up to 24 L/min. Even if it were 26 or 28 L/min that doesn't mean the entire night's therapy was in the toilet. It just means most likely there were a few times where leaks went over the line. Short brief excursions over 24 L/min aren't the end of the world. It all depends on how far above 24 L/min you went and how long you stayed there. 15 minutes at 30 L/min out 8 hours of sleep...not the end of the world but it can sure elevate the 95% number and make it look worse than it really is/was.

When you get the software up and running you will get a better handle on what I am talking about. No rush though. Information on the software can be found in my signature line. When you are up for a bit of reading take a stroll through the SleepyHead tutorial and I think a lot of your questions will be covered.

Congrats on the first night. You beat my first night all to heck...

I have to say I am surprised at how much better I am feeling already. I was expecting that in the beginning that I would be able to sleep the whole night with the CPAP, get a good night's sleep, and not wake up gasping for air and my heart pounding as I was able to sleep just find with the cpap mask during the sleep study. So I was very happy when I woke up this morning not feeling like I was about to die.

I figured being able to stay awake through the day, not fighting drowsiness while driving and such, along with more energy and mental clarity/cognition would gradually get better because my body is very sleep deprived. I did not realize my body was this sleep deprived. This morning, no problems with my 45 minute drive to work, was not tired after the drive, and it is now 5:30pm and I have not nodded off once even after a big meal at lunch time when my work went out to eat. I even had to do some very repetitive computer work and had a meeting with a very monotonous person leading it after the big lunch, and still did not nod off. That was the big test for me. Before I would just call in from my desk, so no one would know that I fell asleep. I went to the meeting and passed the test of not nodding off. I also work in IT.

No, I am not feeling like a brand new man just yet, but there is a marked difference between how I feel today and how I have felt yesterday and for a long time before, and a couple of close friends at work have noticed it too. Mainly not falling asleep during the day. In fact yesterday on my drive to the DME from work, twice I had to make pull off on to an exit and stop somewhere to just get out of the car and move around to shake off the drowsiness. I have never fallen asleep at the wheel, nor ever nodded off. When I feel it coming on, I pull off on to an exit and stop somewhere. I add this time in to what my drive time should be, which is 45 minutes. The trip home is always the worse for drowsiness, but better with lighter traffic. Drive home this evening will be another big test. I am actually looking forward to this weekend with lots of sleep using the CPAP for every time I sleep, even if it is a nap in the recline, I will have it on. I have got to get caught up on restfull sleep.
