New to this forum and learning a lot. Was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia about a year ago and have just under went the over night sleep study test. From the study I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. At this point I can not tell you the results of my sleep study. My Resmed S9 with the H5i humidifier is set at 17 on the air, temperature at 80, and humidity at 3. I have been slowly increasing the humidity in hope of not awakening with my tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth as I am so dry.
Any help or advice I am definitely open to, yet remember I am new so the terminology is a little foreign right now. My question at the moment is on mask, between these two mask is one preferred over the other and for what reasons? I know it is personal preference and I am just starting to understand a little of the dynamics of the full face mask. I have a deviated septum so it is difficult to breath through my nose so that is why I am using a full face mask. I have had the machine for only 4 days, but sleep has been a little rough. When I sleep, it is great sleep, the problem is, I wake up feeling so tired right now, does that go away?
I would greatly appreciate the guidance of this forum as to my present and future questions, everyone seems so helpful.
Quanttro Air or Mirage Quanttro
Re: Quanttro Air or Mirage Quanttro
You're right, it IS a very personal thing and you may just have to try several of them to see what works for you, and in what size.
For me, using the Mirage Quattro was always a very delicate balance of significant leaks vs. turning my nose into raw hamburger. Other people like it just fine. The Quattro Air for me was like a breath of fresh air (no pun intended). It's much lighter that the Mirage Quattro, much easier to put on and take off (no fumbling with clips, just put a loop over a post) and much easier to disassemble and reassemble for daily cleaning.
No contest for me, it was the Air all the way.
P.S.- not to confuse things, but the Quattro Air headgear is lightly constructed and is junk in my opinion, just like all the ResMed headgears. They curl up and wear out in no time. I have substituted the HG from a F-P Eson nasal mask; it works beautifully and lasts forever.

P.P.S. not to confuse things further, but I'm on my third mirage quattro headgear in five years... though I have no clue what I'm doing differently than youold dude wrote: P.S.- not to confuse things, but the Quattro Air headgear is lightly constructed and is junk in my opinion, just like all the ResMed headgears. so, as with all things, ymmv.
the air is a newer mask, so it's presumably better in various ways... I've got a friend who uses one and seems to quite like it.

Re: Quanttro Air or Mirage Quanttro
Likely the fact that I had to pull it tighter to get any kind of a seal was contributory.palerider wrote:P.P.S. not to confuse things further, but I'm on my third mirage quattro headgear in five years... though I have no clue what I'm doing differently than youold dude wrote: P.S.- not to confuse things, but the Quattro Air headgear is lightly constructed and is junk in my opinion, just like all the ResMed headgears. And yes, I know the oft-quoted advice about over tightening being a major cause of leaks. I can assure you that it isn't universally true.

Re: Quanttro Air or Mirage Quanttro
I have been using the Quattro for just under 5 years...I am on my 3rd mask and have never changed the headgear. I lightly wash the headgear at about 8-10 months (when I remember) and I don't open the velcro when I wash it.

Re: Quanttro Air or Mirage Quanttro
Thanks all for commenting, I am leaning towards the Quanttro Air as it has such a delicate or soft fit. The problem or challenge I have is the setting of 17 that my Doctor has the CPAP machine set to, my wife thinks you could blow up a tire with as much air that is coming out of the mask, so trying to eliminate leaks can be challenging with either mask. I hope patience is definitely a plus this go around. Also, my humidity is set at 3 or 4, can't remember at the moment, but, should I raise that to about 5 to help minimize the dry mouth and nose issues? Thanks again everyone, this newbie is very appreciative of all your help and guidance!

The last message was from me, Aero1, it wouldn't let me submit my username, strange. This message might do the same.
Re: Quanttro Air or Mirage Quanttro
don't tell your wife, but 17cm/h2o is roughly .24psi.... that tire's gonna be mighty flat.11 wrote:Thanks all for commenting, I am leaning towards the Quanttro Air as it has such a delicate or soft fit. the machine blows a *LOT* of air when the mask is off because it's trying to pressurize the end of the hose to a quarter pound per square inch.... but there's nothing there, as soon as you put the mask on, and the pressure builds, then it quits trying so hard, and goes from perhaps 167-200 liters/minute (wide open nothing on the end) down to 20-30lpm to keep the mask pressurized against the built in vent rate.
