Cpap Mask Questions! New user here.

Post by sizalyn » Sun Aug 03, 2014 2:24 pm

I have a question. I was just recently diagnosed with hypopnea of 22.6 and hour. Also, with Central Sleep Apnea. So I was put on a cpap. However, all the XS mask did not fit me. I need an XXS. I was told that all the companies did not make them. Is that true? I had an XS mask that was full face that sorta fit me. But I needed one size smaller.

They did find me a nasal mask that was for a 4-6 year old. 0__0 I am a 25 year old gal It was size small, but it fit okay, and sometimes it popped off. I need an XS in that one.

Long story short. I need an XXS mask whether it be full or nasal. Do they make those? I have a child's size small nasal mask, that is okayish, but I need an XS. Do they make those?

Thanks guys!

Hi - I use an UltraMirage FFM in a small shallow (which is diff. from just the 'small'), so you might want to see if you can try it out somewhere. One thing else - do you have vision problems? Your note came out in very large type.

Maybe you have vision problems Julie...She is NOT using full caps.

UltraMirage FFM are those silicon things that go up your nose a bit right? They tried those on me. They had the smallest size, and it was still too big. Plus I had a weird reaction too it. It made my nose swell up and turn super red. My face broke out bad as well.

Just making sure, that link above; that's the one?

No no! Those are prongs or something. My mask is a regular FF covering my nose and then descending to cover my mouth - an 'all in one' if you like, but a regular FF, not pillows or prongs or any other odd thing (now I'll get in trouble from people who use those ). See link here -

Would this mask possibly work or is it still too big?

I have a small Quattro Air FF you can have to try out... no need to send it back to me if it doesn't fit as I really don't have a use for it. Unfortunately, I don't have headgear for it but you can buy it separately at cpap.com, our forum sponsors. There is also a Quattro Air for Her that I think has an XS size - you could order that from them too - that's the idea behind the "for her" line of masks... The Air is this mask:

PM me if you're interested, or post here and I'll send you a PM

FFM means Full Face Mask, FF is Full Face. The masks they are suggesting fit over both your mouth and your nose - they do not have "prongs" or "pillows" that go in your nose.

So I just called a provider around my area, ccause I have no clue what I am doing. I mentioned all the suggestions that you guys link me too I am suppose to go in there to figure out which one I would need. Even though they already took a ton of measurements at the sleep clinic! Also, no companies make XXS. So they may fit me for a young child size.

Thanks for all the help guys! I appericate everything. Also, to the gal who was going to send me a mask: I appericate it, but since I don't even know what I am doing.. I am gonna decline! If it comes back to that's the size I do need, I than may take you up on that offer. If some how my medical card won't pay for it!

Something that might help.

I use a small quattro fx full face mask. I asked if there was a smaller size as it really has to be just perfect on my face or I will have leaks at the top or bottom. I was also having trouble getting it snug enough as the straps were too long, and getting the straps tightened enough meant the Velcro was in my hair and wouldn't hold. So, I learned about the small size headgear and ordered it. Awesome. Depending on the mask, a smaller size headgear may help it fit better. That smaller headgear for me solved 6 weeks of fitting issues.

My first DME lied and said there was no such thing as the small size headgear, then said they could not special order it. I was also told that all Resmed masks come with medium headgear. But I changed DMEs and the new DME ordered the small headgear just fine. And when I ordered a new mask, they ordered the mask without headgear and then the headgear separately.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?
