My Sleep Doc Dumped Me!

Post by LinkC » Wed Jul 16, 2014 7:02 pm

Actually, he dumped my Insurance due to Obamacare requirements...but this isn't about that.

I currently have no sleep doc, and my annual "Supplies 'script" will expire soon. I'm going to see if my GP will write one the next time I see him, but if that fails I'm screwed.

Any ideas other than breaking in another doc and convincing him/her that I can handle my own therapy?

The OSA patient died quietly in his sleep.
Unlike his passengers who died screaming as the car went over the cliff...

Link: I think you vastly underestimate yourself! From what I have been able to pick up from you is that you are a smart and intelligent guy. Unless you have some extraordinary problems (sleep-wise or health-wise), I suggest you work with your primary care doctor. But that's just me. I have never seen a sleep doctor, but I have plain ole OSA. My lungs were getting sore because the autoset EPR wasn't enough, so I got my primary care doctor to agree to a VPAP. He told the DME all the settings I told him to put in (thanks, Pugs...) and I'm happy as a monkey eating a cupcake! It's up to you, but I think you'd be vastly surprised on how many regulars on this forum do not use a sleep doctor.

Link...are you sure that your prescription expires? I have been using the same one for almost 3 years. My DME has never asked me for an update.

I buy my supplies from e-bay, but back when I was working with Lincare, they wanted me to buy "something" every few months. When I didn't buy something for 6 months, they said I had to have my prescription renewed from my sleep doc. Since I had no intention of ever walking into his office again, I told them to go fly a kite. I get along fine with no prescription except the one my GP writes to cpap.com for the few things I need from them.

is it that your doctor was dropped from your insurance network? If yes then I can copy 4 steps to take that were suggested by Orly Avitzur, MD, who is medical adviser to the Consumer Reports (on health) and whose uncle was a classmate of my in college.

I lost my Sleep Doc a year ago due to forced retirement from an auto accident. My GP wrote me a prescription for Misc CPAP Supplies as needed with a diagnosis of OSA. So far two supplers have accepted it with no problem. Now searching for a "reasonable" supplies provider. Good luck !!

Linkc, if that doesn't work, (or, if it costs more than 99$ to see your regular doc, you can try these people:

http://www.easybreathe.com/CPAPRX-Overview-80.html I've got no experience with 'em, just heard about 'em here on the forum.
