Feeling Way Worse After Deep Sleep

Post by KarD786 » Mon Jul 14, 2014 9:00 pm

Hello all. So I posted a post similar to this last week, but I wanted to reword it to make it more clear on what I was asking. So since my sleep study, I have lost about five pounds and am sleeping on my side. For the first time about nine months last week, I woke up from deep sleep. I cannot confirm this with a sleep study of course, but it is pretty evident that I am getting deep sleep after I was previously experiencing early morning awakenings (7:30AM) no matter what time I slept every single day as well as waking up in light sleep with an adrenaline rush. For the past week, I have been able to sleep till 9:30-10 with no issues, and it is surely from deeper stages of sleep. The first two days (Monday and Tuesday), I felt great. After that day, I am feeling worse than ever before. Like I got hit by two semi-trucks. So assuming that I am getting into deeper sleep but am still having events, could this be the reason on why I feel even worse than when I wasn't barely any deep sleep? I assume awakening from an unfinished deep sleep stage will hit harder than waking from light sleep.

The reason I ask this is because I get my CPAP in a week or two, and don't want to have false hopes. I thought getting deep sleep would make me feel a little bit better, but now I'm worse. It feels like sleep inertia, but literally all day. I have honestly been extremely depressed lately, and I am not facing the fact that I may need to see a therapist to get on anti-depressants, something I never wanted to resort to. However, I will not do this till I have a month or two of solid compliance with my CPAP. I just don't want to get my hopes up unneccesarily. I also think that the depression is temporary due to my current situation and inability to do my usual hobbies. The two things I excelled at were fitness and academics, and I am even struggling to concentrate on my easy summer electives this semester. After I go to the gym, I feel like I got hit my four semi-trucks, and am fatigued beyond belief the rest of the day. My job at the university ended in May, and I have been unable to find the motivation to even go job hunting as of lately. A normal day for me before health issues were gym at 9AM, school, homework, and then I'd socialize. Now I do one and am fatigued for the whole day. Thanks for reading the question/rant, you all on here are extremely helpful!

Just to elaborate on my situation, I just normalized my thyroid (hashimoto's) after being overmedicated by an ill-informed doctor for over 6 months. I resolved the thyroid issue (my doctor told me to wait as that may have been causing the early morning awakenings), and after normalizing and feeling like crap I found out about the sleep apnea. So it has been a long battle with my health, and I came off of one thing that causes fatigue and walked right into another. Except my thyroid hormone is normal as to fast as it was before, so it is a more tired type of fatigue. I am thinking that the over exaggaration of my symptoms compared to my low AHI (14) may factor in the fact that I have also not had a sufficient period of proper rest to recover from being hyperthyroid as well. Then again that could be me trying to sugarcoat it trying to justify why I feel completely lifeless and zombie like.

BUMP... almost off the first page and you certainly deserve some answers before that happens. I'm headed off to an appt right now but will get back to you .

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

KardD, as I answered in your other thread, there are many potential causes of fatigue. Here are some as listed by the Mayo Clinic. The only way I know to determine the cause is to rule them out one by one. When you get set up on cpap at least you'll be able to rule out sleep apnea.

Taking a quick inventory of the things that might be responsible for your fatigue is the first step toward relief. In general, most cases of fatigue may be attributed to three areas: lifestyle factors, medical conditions or psychological problems.

Lifestyle factors
Feelings of fatigue often have an obvious cause, such as:
•Alcohol use or abuse
•Caffeine use
•Excessive physical activity
•Inactivity
•Lack of sleep
•Medications, such as antihistamines, cough medicines and cold remedies
•Unhealthy eating habits

Psychological conditions
Fatigue is a common symptom of mental health problems, such as:
•Anxiety
•Depression
•Grief
•Stress

Medical conditions
Unrelenting exhaustion may be a sign of a medical condition or underlying illness, such as:
•Acute liver failure
•Anemia
•Cancer
•Chronic fatigue syndrome
•Chronic kidney disease
•COPD — Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
•Emphysema
•Heart disease
•Hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid)
•Hypothyroidism (a thyroid disorder)
•Medications, such as prescription pain medications, heart medications, blood pressure medications and some antidepressants
•Obesity
•Restless legs syndrome
•Sleep apnea
•Type 1 diabetes
•Type 2 diabetes
