Buying a CPAP for personal use

Post by Hanlu » Wed Jul 02, 2014 4:49 pm

Hi Everybody,

I am currently in US and want to bring a CPAP for my grandpa who is in China. It's for personal use but I find it's not that easy to shop a CPAP online. I haven't shopped for any medical products before so I'm not sure if I must have a prescription to get a CPAP. Is there any way to buy it without that because it takes some time to get the prescription from China.
Hope somebody can help.

Without a sleep study it's hard to tell what type of machine is required, however if you are absolutely determined to buy a CPAP then there's this forum or Craigslist (google it). You won't be able to get a CPAP machine from any online seller in the USA without a prescription - unless it's a dodgy seller and who needs that?

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

When are you going to China? How much time do you have? Where in the USA are you?

OK, Craigslist for a used machine is probably your best option... try that first.

If you can't find one, you'll need a prescription from a Chinese doctor to buy a new one, but maybe there's a way to speed up that process... check back.

I would find a doctor to perscribe a CPAP for me. This should be easy. Learn about want you need to tell the doctor, tell the doctor there are no insurance companies involved, tell the doctor that your spouse has observed you sleeping for a long time and that you have OSA and UARS. That should do it. Get a CPAP; give it to your father! THERE....

What about buying one in China? After all, many ResMed devices are made in Singapore.

I would imagine the market there is tightly controlled, and unlike here,
there would be no factory outlets except on the black market.
Of course, I wonder if there would be restrictions on bringing a machine into China.
