Is this a good price to buy DeVilbiss IntelliPAP AutoAdjust

Post by Lotus8 » Sun Jun 29, 2014 8:37 pm

Hi all.

Rather dissapointed that my Respironics M series auto I've had for almost 6 years needs to be replaced. But at the same time, excited about the potential for new technology for newer class of APAPS out there.

I think I can get my insurance to cover the S9 new. But I am looking to purchase, on my own, a second APAP machine for travel/backup. I think i found one at a great price, and am curious to know if its a good deal or not.

From a well recommended on this site for 'second wind' cpap machines, this is what is being offered:

Gently Used DeVilbiss Intellipap Auto CPAP (with SmartFlex) with Heated Humidifier at $299. with 2 year warranty.

Thanks in advance!

P.S do I need to buy a module or software to be able to check my own data for tweaking?

If the machine were new, it would be a good price, but as new sell on Cpap.com for around $400-500, it's not a huge bargain and I'd absolutely want to know just 'how gently' (how many hours) it's been used.

You don't need to get a module (new $150) depending on how detailed you want your info to be... I don't have one, but my day to day to week, month, year situation is boringly the same give or take 1-2 AHI numbers (almost always below 2 or less). I get a code # from the screen in the a.m. when I bother to check at all, put it into a little box on Cpap.com (or a deVilbiss page) and get the night's (or week's or month's) stats like these -

% Days at least 5 hours 100%
Day Count 1
Days at least 5 hours 1
95th Percentile Pressure 10.5
90th Percentile Pressure 10.0
AHI 1.5
Pressure Plateau Time 0%
Leak Time 0%
NRI 0.00 (nonresponsive events)
EPI 0 (exhale puff index)
While Breathing Hours Last Day 6.0

And that's it!

Max hours would be 500 hours on the unit.

Granted, a good deal is subjective. I just priced the same unit, with humidifier, on cpap.com for $545. This deal is roughly for 50% less. To me, 500 hours doesn't seem like much time at all. But that is why I came here, to get other's opinion about this.

Second wind has a good reputation.

You need to buy the optional data module for the IntelliPAP in order to get the data. SleepyHead will read the data from the machine, if you have the data module.

The IntelliPAP machine is good, but I recommend the S9 AutoSet or PRS1 Auto. Check the links in my signature line.

If you go for the S9 be sure to get the AutoSet, not the Escape Auto.

The basic Intellipap AutoAdjust will only provide the information that Julie described. It does not have a slot for a memory card and only provides a set of code numbers that can be entered into the Devilbiss website for interpretation into summary numbers for nightly, weekly and monthly values.

For more detailed information beyond much more than nightly AHI and useage, you will need to purchase the SmartLink module. I would not recommend purchasing the Devilbiss software since the only capability that provides over Sleepyhead is the ability to remotely operate the machine at a sleep lab. You might want to consider purchase of the adapter cable since this is the only way to get firmware updates for either the APAP unit or for the SmartLink module. I would also advise that the SmartLink module is not able to handle a memory card that is larger than 2Gb.

Finally, do not expect to see the same resolution of data out of the SmartLink module that you are seeing from other machines. I cannot say for sure, but I believe that the machine records numbers about every 5 minutes, so you get adequate data and event flagging, but not the "noisy graphs" that I have frequently seen posted on this site.

My Intellipap is my travel machine. I had previously used only the Smart codes for data,
but this latest trip, I used the data module, which houses the SD card.
When I have time, I will load it into Sleepyhead and see what I have.
I wrote down the Smart codes for comparison.

Well, I'm thrilled to report that I got the APAP machine a day later, and it has only a total of 112 hours. Looks perfectly new machine, inside and out. Incredibly thrilled with my purchase from secondwind. I saved almost 50% of my money I would have spent.

Since you are using it for travel, I'm sure you could care less about data for a few days. You got a great deal.
