Just read Chest Pains

Post by krousseau » Sun Jul 09, 2006 10:47 am

Chest pain obviously can signify something very serious that we all fear. Yet when it occurs many of us do not taake decisive action. Any of these alone or in combination can be cardiac related:chest "discomfort", chest pain, shortness of breath, sweating, pallor, light headedness, tightness, constriction, anxiety, pains or tingling in arm, pain in jaw, pain in shoulder, pain in upper back. Women and the elderly in particular may have odd symptoms, abdominal instead of chest pain for example.

CALL 911

DO NOT WASTE TIME CALLING YOUR DOCTOR

DO NOT GET INTO A CAR TO DRIVE TO A HOSPITAL- if you lose consciousness or incapacitating chest pain starts you could be hard to find

We do have one more risk factor for cardiac disease so be prepared-read up on the symptoms before it happens. Ask your MD about taking a couple aspirin at the onset of chest pain-read about that. If you & doc decide aspirin is a good idea-get several small vials so you have them around your home and in your car.

If you have an older cell phone without GPS-take it in to your service provider and get one with GPS. There is a new regulation requiring all new cell phones to have GPS because of incidents where people called 911-but didn't know where they were. Yes it is a boon to the cell phone industry-and good for the public too.

Not all Heart Attacts have pain, If you have Diabetas, sometime the pain doesn't happen, with my heart attact I had no pain or numbness. It just felt link a elephant was sitting on my chest, I waited four days before going to the ER.

Within 15 minutes I was in the Cath Lab, having two stents put in 95% blockage. They were unable to do by-pass until my heart got stronger. In one month, I went in for the Quad-bypass. It is now almost a year later. Jim

The symptoms for heart attack in otherwise healthy women can be very hard to diagnose let alone a women with underlying problems. Men tend to ignore symptoms (goofproof a good example) while women just can't clearly identify the problem as well.
