damp inside nose mask

Post by stephmc » Tue Jun 17, 2014 8:16 am

HI, I just finished night 11, and so far it's going a lot better than I thought. But last night I woke up a few times, and it seemed like my face was wet a little under my nose mask, not much but it hadn't done that before. Nothing has changed on my machine, could it be I was breathing harder? any advice is appreciated.

Either your humidity's set higher than necessary (it's not 'therapy', just a comfort thing), or possibly the machine's set on a table higher than you, so lowering it would help (water can't run uphill ).

It could be what is called rainout where some condensation occurs due to relatively high humidity in your mask.
Are there any water droplets in your hose? If so, then its rainout.
This can occur when the room temperature is lower than before or your humidifier setting is increased.
If it is small, then unless it bugs you nothing needs to be done.

There are ways to control it, if necessary.
1) reduce the humidity level in your machine.
2) increase the room temperature where you sleep.
3) install insulation around your hose. I use fleece from the fabric store.
4) use a mask liner that will absorb some of the moisture.

It would be helpful if you posted / registered your equipment profile. There's a link in my signature block indicating how to do it.

Which mask are you using? Sometimes condensation can occur at just the mask level from the moisture in our own exhaled breath. It's a combination of humidity being delivered mixed in with the moisture in our own exhaled breath and the ambient room temperature being a big cooler that causes the condensation to occur.
If it is just at the mask level...depending on which mask is used it won't make any difference where you place the machine due to where the hose might exit the mask. Most of the time it requires a bit of an uphill direction and the moisture can't run uphill.

If it is just a minor thing...no need to do anything but if it more of an annoyance and wakes you up a lot then there are some things that can be done to limit potential condensation that is just at the mask level.
This can be totally different from condensation in the hose itself.

So if it is a problem for you then tell us which mask and model machine you are using so that we can offer more specific ways to fix the problem.
