Early morning beeping noise on Resmed S9 VPAP. Any suggesti

Post by Chuck Connors » Mon Jun 02, 2014 8:16 pm

I've been woken up occasionally with unwanted beeping sounds coming from my machine during the night. The machine will beep three times in quick succession, then repeat. Has anyone experienced this? If it's a quick fix on my end, that would be great. Thank you. -Chuck-

A common problem with many PR S1 models and to a much lesser degree, it's occasionally reported in some ResMed S9 models. Try the following word search method (forget about this forum's search engine, it's junk). Go into your internet browser's search engine (I like Google, but DuckDuckGo works too), then type this in the search entry field:

site:cpaptalk.com PR S1 beeping (or in your case: site:cpaptalk.com ResMed S9 beeping) ... you might use the term 'night' or 'early morning' to refine your search. You will be presented with several past threads - simply take your pick and start reading.

Quite some time ago I went into the ResMed's SD cards folder and found the error report files (see line below) - as I recall, it was a non-critical stack overflow. Here's a thread I found using the above search technique; it's for PR's but it might get you pointed in the right direction:

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

The S9 VPAP has a leak alert...I don't remember if it was 3 beeps or not.
Check your software reports to see if any large leaks are reported at the time of the beeping.
Other than that...I have no idea what it might be.

For PR machines:
There's a super quick, easy non-invasive fix for almost all the PR machines regarding unwanted beeps. PM me if you want the details - please note that there are a few cautionary caveats involved.

For ResMed machines:
From past threads about the ResMed machines and unwanted beeps, you will have to go into the innards and do some fairly simple electronic tinkering... it's doable for someone with basic electronics skills/experience, BUT not recommended for novices. In addition, there are some big caveats like voiding the warranty, messing up the machine and so forth. PM me if you have the electronic herewith-all I mentioned above, (I'll have to go look for the details).

For the less technically less inclined. Consider foam or silicone earplugs - available in any drug store. They can mute the noise for all but the hyper-sensitive. Also, check the links I provided a couple of replies up and read about the error codes in your SD card folders; maybe you can determine if these are 'critical errors' (ie. the machine is telling you there's a big problem) OR it's a non-critical error code in which the machine is simply annoyed and is beeping just for the hell of it (ie. stack overflow, power deviation etc)

anything on the display when this happens? hit the 'i' button or the knob, perhaps?

Nothing, nada, zip. Apparently that is the method PR and ResMed use for non-critical error messages. My thought is: Why wake us up in the middle of the night if it's not critical
