Leak Line Evaluation

Post by bavinck » Wed May 28, 2014 1:50 pm

My doc switch me from straight 8cm to 8-14cm. I think the higher pressures are causing some mouth leaking, but I am not 100% sure. This is last nights data, I did not wake up (that I remember) due to any of the leaks shown. Does this look like mouth leaks? If so, as I did not wake up, is it safe to ignore?

If it's a chronic thing, I'd want to look into it further. If it's just one night (or only the very occasional night) then I wouldn't worry about it. If you have an opportunity to try a FF mask for e.g. a week however, in your size and fitted properly while lying down, then why not take it and see how things go?

Julie, agreed - that is kind of my plan. I really like the nasal pillows, though, and I am kinda hoping leaks like this do not affect the efficacy of the treatment as they are smaller than 24 L/min. However...I am beginning to look in FFM alternatives to try in the event this becomes a chronic problem...

Even if it was mouth breathing (sort of looks like it when you see the plateau effect) it isn't a huge amount and never hits large leak territory and certainly is within the machine's ability to compensate. Heck, even if it did venture above 24 L/min for 10 or 15 minutes it isn't the end of the world.

I routinely see much worse than that every night..sometimes even short excursion into large leak territory. I sleep right through them, feel decent and see no need to go shopping for a full face mask to fix maybe 10 minutes of big leak no matter what the cause.

That's good advice, thanks Pugsy. Part of the search for a FFM is out of curiosity as I have not used one.
