FF Suggestions For Oddly-Shaped Head?

Post by KenTheriot » Mon May 05, 2014 8:51 am

I've been looking for a FF mask (needs to be FF mask) that won't leak. So far 100% of my trials have failed. They have all started to leak when my ASV machine reaches its higher pressures.

My new theory is that my head/face shape is a major contributing factor. Not only do I have a long narrow face, but both my forehead and my chin slope backward/inward. I like the control on the top of the Quattro (my most-used FF mask) because I can turn it to the maximum to better adapt to my sloping in chin. But even than does not prevent the leaking/face-farting at the higher pressures. I've tried the anti-leak strap and liners from Pad-a-Cheeks, but no dice.

I most recently tried a cloth mask - The Anew. It was a definite fail. I don't think that mask was meant for the rapidly changing pressures of ASV. So far I've tried The Quattro, The Mirage, the Amara (medium and large), The Anew, The Fisher-Paykel FlexFit 431 (older one with no foam), The Phillips Respironics ComfortFull, the Hybrid (nasal pillows won't stay in my nose - they shoot out), and a large number of FF masks around 2001-2002 that I don't even remember the name of. So clearly there are several still I have not tried.

So given that list of failed masks and the info on my oddly-shaped head, can anyone suggest a mask that might work better for me.

Thanks!

Ken

Hi - you may want to look at my mask (see below) because it has a feature between the forehead piece and nose that allows you to alter the angle of the mask somewhat. Hard to describe here, but look at Cpap.com for more info and call them to discuss trying it out (they have return insurance).

Thanks Julie. I have tried the regular, older Mirage. Is there a big difference between that and the Ultra Mirage?

Looking through my pile of "fails" in my closet, I think they're the same thing. ResMed's nomenclature on the Quattro series masks can be confusing. I think the old style was called the Mirage Ultra and it was superseded by the Mirage Quattro. Often the "Ultra" and "Quattro" get flipped around into the first part of the name by folks and it adds to the confusion.

Not the same but I can't guarantee the differences.
