Newbie from NY

Post by Catlizg » Tue Apr 22, 2014 7:39 am

After 10+ years of an ever increasing lack of sleep accompanied by restless leg and arm syndrome, and despite my doc trying every technique and med with no success, he sent me to a neurologist who specializes in RLS and sleep disorders. We both thought it was a shot in the dark so were rather surprised to discover I desatted down to 79% with an AHI of 39. So...CPAP study it was. I did research before the second study only to realize I would have a major issue with headgear of any kind. Not a claustrophobic issue, rather a tactile/sensation issue. I live in Buffalo NY an won't even wear a hat in winter. Enter panic mode until I found this site and through lurking, found the Bella with ear loops. They had both the Bella and the Nano with single strap ready for me the nite of the titration and encouraged me to play with them, take them apart, etc. Tried the strap one - no go. But, with the Bella and ear loops I was able to forget it was there within five minutes and fell asleep!

The neurologist got the RLS under control (YAY) and I am now on day five of CPAP (bigger YAY). Absolutely been able to be 100% compliant with mask on at least 7 hrs each night. Was able to solve minor leak problems by adjusting top strap so pillows didn't shift from top of nose by movement. No strap marks on my face in the morning. Still having some trouble consistently staying asleep but I'm one of those people who have trouble with any change in my sleeping environment so time will help that. Bit of an issue with rainout quickly solved with tips and tricks on this site.

I can't state enough how valuable this site has been. I'm very, very lucky to do so well right at the start, but would not have had that success without all the knowledge shared on this site. Each night as I sleep more and more, and the sleep, gets more restful, I feel like a new person. And I've dreamed for the first time in years. Darn, it's nice to feel normal.

Thank you, thank you, thank you,

Welcome to the forum.

It will get better...I promise. You are already doing quite well and far ahead of a good many newbies at this stage.
