Hubby is a duck

Post by robysue » Mon Apr 21, 2014 8:17 am

Yes, my hubby is one of those lucky few who have no adjustment problems to speak up and who feel better almost from the start.

Hubby started PAPing 4 weeks ago today.

He has no problem getting to sleep with the hose on his nose. He has had no comfort issues with his Eson nasal mask after we loosened the straps slightly on the first night. He figured out how to turn over immediately. His leak lines are fantastic. His AHI is consistently below 2.0. He's sleeping from roughly 11:00pm to 7:30am most nights; most nights he only wakes up when I come to bed. There's not been a hint of aerophagia all month long. On the first couple of nights he complained about a dry nose, but bumping the humidifier up from 3 to 4 seems to have taken care of that. In the last month, he woke up with the mask off his face maybe twice and put it back on. (Spring allergy congestion was the likely culprit.)

And yes, he says he has more energy (although not yet as much as he'd like) and he doesn't fall asleep in front of the tv anymore. He's less crabby in the daytime. And the number of times he wakes up needing to go has dropped. (Pre-CPAP it wasn't a serious problem--yet; but he was waking up once or twice needing to go on most nights; now he's waking up needing to go once or twice a week rather than on "most nights".)

I'm green with envy but I'm also super pleased that he's been spared all of my (on-going) problems.

robysue:

I'm so glad that your husband is doing so well. We hear so often about how hard it is and seldom hear about really quick success.

Isn't that just the way things go sometimes. Part of us is glad that a person adapts so easily and feels better quickly and part of us (that little devil sitting on our shoulder) wishes that a person has to just experience a tiny bit of the problems we have gone through just to appreciate how difficult it can be for some people.

I still envy those people who wake up wanting to run a marathon...I still don't have that kind of energy but I keep telling myself that it is extremely unlikely that I would be wanting to do the marathon even if I didn't have OSA and a need for the machine.
That miracle simply isn't going to happen for me. Too much other stuff preventing it.

Hate him.

All jokes aside, I am happy for both of you and hope his good fortune continues.

I had to look twice at the subject heading of this thread because at first I thought it said something else...

It's great that he's taken to PAP so well.

Great news!!

I am remembering several, however, who reported problems at say 3 weeks to 3 months into therapy. The body changes especially if the therapy works. I am very glad he has you to make sure the data is downloaded and analyzed!!

I also think a dietitian and personal trainer could help as well.

Have a great life!

Congratulations!

My hubby had similar luck. He did have some leak issues until recently. The leaks weren't bad enough to be too concerned with. Now if I could just find a sleeping pill he could take with the DOT's blessing we'd be in business. Just the fact the crabbiness is gone is great! I'm really happy for your hubby. I'll bet he benefited greatly from your knowledge, I think it helps our spouses to adjust when they see what we have learned along the way.

Jen

Thanks for the kind thoughts and best wishes for my hubby.

Yes, my knowledge has helped hubby on a few things. But I honestly think the big difference between hubby and me is that we're at opposite ends of the "sensitivity" spectrum in terms of physical sensitivity. We all know how oversensitive I am to almost everything; hubby "undersensitive" if there is such a thing.
