And the winner is...Sleepyhead!!

I went with my mom(theresemp) to the DME today to discuss her still high AHI, and need for a new mask. When making the appointment I had mentioned to the respiratory therapist that I used sleepyhead to determine Mom probably needs to go to BIPAP. Initially he got a little huffy and said what ever I was using could not possibly be accurate, and I shouldn't have adjusted her pressure.

I brought my computer with me, and Mom brought her entire APAP - machine, masks, and SD card. After the therapist did his thing with his official software, I turned on my computer and showed him the sleepyhead data. He was amazed. He had to agree it was indeed accurate. Both the "official report", and the sleepyhead report clearly showed that while there were some times the pressure did go below 20, most of the night it did not, and the AHI was still high, over 12 most nights. So the he agreed- BIPAP is the next step.

Tomorrow morning I will go again with mom to the sleep clinic. Hopefully we walk out with a script for a BIPAP setup and the therapy Mom needs.

The DME didn't sent her home with the heated hose I had requested, nor did he have her try any new masks. He is waiting to get the updated prescription to basically start from scratch and make sure Mom has was she needs this time. Almost a year of ineffective therapy because all they had been checking was hours of use and compliance.

In a way, I'm glad I was diagnosed with sleep apnea, because in researching for myself, I've been able to rescue my Mom, with lots of help from this forum and sleepyhead.

Now I'll be reading everything I can find on BIPAP.
