New to APAP - Questions

Post by Marleymom » Thu Apr 10, 2014 12:10 pm

Had my first sleep study in 6 years. The tech mentioned at the time that my pressure had dropped from 6cm to 4cm. The sleep doctor sent the study to my doc suggesting a CPAP with 5cm. I had it in my mind after much research here that I wanted the Resmed S9 Autoset. Went round and round with the DME who said I couldn't have it as my doctor did not specify two pressures on the prescription. Finally had my prescription re-written to say 5cm/15cm. Got my machine yesterday and used it for the first time last night. Boy, what a great night of sleep. Looking at the info this morning, it state an AHI of 1.2 and pressure of 11.2. Now, I had been concerned that it was too great a range (5cm -15cm), but would this overnight pressure indicate that I am in a sweet spot? I would love to hear your thoughts regarding the pressure.

Thanks!

If you don't get much response to this question it is because there are too many things that could be happening during the night to say much with certainty when only working from a pressure and an AHI. To get much help you will need to install a software program like Sleepyhead, take a screenshot that includes the nightly details and graphs for events, pressure, and leaks, and upload that somewhere so we can take a look at them. There are threads with detailed information on installing the software and importing your data as well as where/how to upload images so we can see them.

Assuming you got these numbers off the S9 LCD screen.....the 11.2 pressure is a 95% number and all that means is that for 95% of the night you were at OR below that number. People tend to overlook the "or below" part of the definition.
95% numbers are too easily skewed to put a lot of faith in them when looking short term.
Long term (2 months or so) they are more apt to be stabilized and give a better overall picture.

Example...I personally would see 90/95 (Respironics dose 90%) pressures up to 18 cm maybe 1 or 2 nights week...but long term average (I actually did a 6 month average) only saw the 90% to be 12.4 which was real close to overall average of 11.6...settings were 10 minimum and 20 maximum.
