I am very new to CPAP therapy. From what I understand, my sleep apnea is very severe with an AHI of 96 (from what my at-home sleep study revealed). I finally have made it through 3 nights with the ResMed AirFit 10 nasal pillow mask. It is light and fairly non-invasive.
However, I am also prone to sinus congestion (from colds, allergies, etc.) from time to time. I’m a side sleeper with a goatee. I initially purchased the Forma Full Face mask in the s/m/l size but it was too small. I then purchased the same mask in the XL size and again – seems uncomfortably small and bulky; I have yet to fall asleep with it on. I’m planning on returning this mask tomorrow.
So my question is…is it a good idea to purchase a full face mask for those times I’m congested? Or should I just use the AirFit nasal pillow mask except for when I can’t breathe through my nose?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

You should never sleep without your CPAP even while napping. There are several good full face masks out there. Of course they do all leak somewhat. It is a matter of finding the one that fits your particular face the best. The quattro fx doesn't fit me well and keeps riding up. The Quattro Air is great. It is light weight and well designed but it does leak some. It's good to get some Remzees mask liners to use with it. Another one I like is the F and P Simplus. It is light and quiet and not too leaky.

A lot of folks like a full face mask when congested. Myself, I think the nasal pillows help with the congestion, blowing the air & moisture in my nose helps me. I also use aromatherapy, especially when congested. Below is a great tool for congestion:

Other congestion 'tools' include nasal saline washes, with a product like the one below, or using a Neti-pot

I think the type of mask & what you use when congested varies from one person to another.

And if you try lowering your humidity setting, you might find that your congestion's a lot better.
