Will coughing while wearing mask damage anything?

Post by knothead » Mon Apr 07, 2014 7:11 am

Just wondering if coughing with my mask on will harm my machine in any way...would it do anything to the little blower motor. I seem to be having allergies now and have this cough I cannot shake. Just curious if I'm causing any damage to my S9.

You are more likely to damage yourself by not using the xpap machine than you are to damage the machine by coughing. The filters on your machine may well filter out some of the dust/pollen that triggers the cough. So, no, I can't see how you could damage anything.

No, the machines are designed to withstand coughs and sneezes. (sneezes are more powerful than coughs)
Although some sneezes may dislodge your filter, just put it back; no problem.

Coughs and/or sneezes will absolutely displace the filters on a PR System One machine.
I solved that problem by placing a long rubber band around my machine that passes over the filters.
Keeps them in quite nicely.

I didn't like waking up in the morning and finding them laying there on the table.

We had that problem with my husband's PRS1 machine. We cut some velcro and made a strap across the filter so it stays in place.

My husband coughs a lot.

I have heard about the PR S1 filters popping out if you cough too hard but it's never happened to me. When I do cough a significant amount into my Quattro FX mask I just make a mental note to wash out the mask the next day. I don't think there's any way you can damage the machine by coughing.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Baby wipes are good for removing excess mucus from the mask.

THANKS, this sets my mind at ease, I do check my filter and do clean the mask daily, especially after coughing...
Its a seasonal thing & will go away...thanks
