Yesterday, I bit the bullet and switched from Windows XP to Windows 7 by creating a new virtual disk in Parallels/Mac, installing Windows 7, then using LapLink's PCMoverPro to move all programs, data, settings etc. over from the Windows XP virtual disk to the new Windows 7 virtual disk. Everything seemed to start and run perfectly in Windows 7, including ResScan, with one BIG exception:
RESSCAN on the Windows 7 platform insists it does NOT see my SD card, although I have tried removing and reinserting it numerous times, restarting ResScan, restarting Windows 7, etc. etc.
I mention the details of my setup and how I made the switchover from Windows XP to be accurate, but I don't want to discourage any Windows-only members from trying to help me, because I really don't think that this is a Parallels or Mac issue. Here are the reasons why I think it is a RESSCAN problem:
1) Windows Explorer in Windows 7 sees my SD card just fine - I can see and open the familiar ResMed S9 folders and they look just like they always do in Windows Explorer;
2) SleepyHead installed on Windows 7 sees, reads and imports my SD just fine.
3) When I re-open my Windows XP virtual disk and run ResScan on it, ResScan opens and imports the data from the SD card just as it always has!
This is really puzzling! And of course it defeats the whole purpose of my installing Windows 7 to stop all the warnings, true or not, of alleged dire disaster when Microsoft stops patching/protecting Windows XP next month.
Any ideas and advice will be very much appreciated!
Best wishes, Nate

Re: ResScan won't read SD on Windows 7. Help!
By way of further detail, I perhaps should have mentioned that my ResMed VPAP is an S9, the SD card is a standard SD, and I am using the built-in SD card reader on my MacBook Pro, and Parallels is set to read the card through the virtual disk and is in fact reading it within Windows 7, everywhere except from within ResScan.

Re: ResScan won't read SD on Windows 7. Help!
Why not just copy the appropriate resscan files from the SD card to the virtual HD. Then point resscan to the proper files on the HD.
Some XP programs inappropriatly access hardware (SD Card?) directly instead of through proper system calls. This may or may not be the problem with Resscan since Parrallels creates virtual access to hardware rather than direct access.

Re: ResScan won't read SD on Windows 7. Help!
I appreciate your suggestion, wexler but I would be curious to know how to do that. As far as I can determine, ResScan has never had a command allowing one to directly access the Windows directory in order to open or import data. It only has a "Download" command to import data from a connected device. If you have been able to access the HD directory with ResScan, I would very much appreciate your letting me know how you did it.bwexler wrote:Why not just copy the appropriate resscan files from the SD card to the virtual HD. PS - I had a déjà vu moment, recalling that Ioriginally had a similar problem with Windows XP, on both Parallels and also on a native Windows PC, when I first started on therapy a couple years ago. At that time, the problem was resolved by reformatting the SD card with the official SD Formatter, installing it first in Windows after download from the association's website, so I tried that now, but to no avail this time around.

Re: ResScan won't read SD on Windows 7. Help!
For reasons that I've never understood, my Win 7 running under Parallels on my Mac has never been able to see the SD card when it's in the SD card slot. I didn't waste a whole lot of time trying fix the problem at the software level since I have numerous old USB SD card readers lying around the house. When I need ResScan or Encore or some other windows program to see an SD card, I just stick it in a USB SD card reader and when the machine asks me where I want it mounted, I say "Windows". Then ResScan and Encore and all the other Windows programs that need to see the SD card have no trouble finding it.

Re: ResScan won't read SD on Windows 7. Help!
Here's another reasons why I think this is a Windows 7 problem and not a Parallels or a Mac problem:
I tried the SD card on Karen's laptop and ResScan can't see the SD on her machine either. And she's got a Dell Inspiron!.
Yet, Start/Computer/ sees the SD just fine as Local Disk (E) on Mac/Parallels, and on her Dell. And i can read the contents on both machines.
So can SleepyHead on both machines.
So I guess I am going to have to do it RobySue's way, although I've got so many USB devices plugged into my USB hub that that's going to be a bit inconvenient and quite a reach when inserting and removing the card everyday.
Best wishes, Nate
PS - I installed the official SD Formatter V4.0 in Windows 7 and it can't see the SD card either, although the formatter that comes with Windows 7 does see it. What a puzzlement! I love challenges like this, but only when I ultimately arrive at home base!

Re: ResScan won't read SD on Windows 7. Help!
I think I may have solved the problem, although my solution seems to contradict some of the assumptions I made earlier above.
Fiddling around in desperation while hunting on Amazon for an SD card reader with a really long cord in order to connect it to my USB hub which lies way out of reach under a side table, I took a break and went back into Parallels 9/Devices/External Devices and selected/checkmarked Apple Internal Memory Card Reader and got a message which said something like: "Are you sure? This device is presently connected to another virtual disk. If you select it in this virtual disk, the device will be disconnected from your other virtual disk" or words to this effect.
So I flipped to my old Windows XP virtual disk, which I had kept running because it was the only one of the two in which ResScan recognized my SD card and was accepting new data, and I shut down Windows XP. Then I flipped back to the Windows 7 virtual disk, selected/checkmarked Apple Internal Memory Card Reader again and bam! bam! bam!, ResScan immediately opened up its Quickstart Window in Windows 7, announcing Device Detected - VPAP Adapt (S9)!!!
So if this keeps working I guess I need to take back my putting the blame on Windows 7. I just wonder why Karen's Dell also ignored the SD card - just to confuse and befuddle me I guess!
Best wishes, Nate
