Making associations/connections

Post by Country4ever » Wed Mar 26, 2014 6:43 am

I admit, I don't have an easy body to understand. I've had fibromyalgia for a long time, a perimenopause/menopause that was sheer hell. I think my body is really wired backwards.

Anyhow.......I'm pretty good at making connections/cause & effects, etc. But sometimes I'm wrong.

I've been on cpap about 7 years. A few weeks ago, I got a new machine (S9, straight cpap, setting 9.4). After a few nights on it, I started to really like it. My numbers are great, I'm sleeping more soundly (although only 6-7/hrs per night). I still wake up several times a night (without needing to pee)....but I do have Alpha Wave Intrusion.

But.....ever since I started on this new machine, my body has gone to hell.........A panic attack, anxiety, nausea, depression, my pain from osteo arthritis has worsened, my body pain as worsened, etc., I'm getting tendonisits in one elbow, I feel really heavy.......like gravity has increased, etc.

Have any of you began to realize that, although your sleep seems to be better, your entire body is having more problems?

This may be a total coincidence. Then again, I wonder if there's some connection.........maybe we sleep more soundly and move less, so our pain is worse the next day? I just wonder what impact the cpap does have on us, in a less positive way. Then again, maybe it's the endless winter that we seem to be having here.

Any similar experiences?

Hi - I would first think hard about anything else in your life (diet, new meds, personal stress, new bed, etc) that maybe incidentally happened around the time of the machine change... then I'd ask my MD for routine labwork - you never know what else might be going on unrelated to OSA - and finally I'd find an oximeter to try out for a few nights to look for possible unexpected drops.

Thanks Julie,

With my fibromyalgia, I spent way too many years going to docs for pains that never showed anything was wrong. So now I'm just trying to wait it out and see if all this stuff evens out before I go on another expensive wild goose chase. I'm fortunate that my husband can run some labs for me, and all the major systems seem to be normal. I will eventually see my doc......maybe in a few weeks.
I feel like I've aged about 20 years in the past month! Maybe this is just "old age" doing its thing. I guess I was thinking that term wasn't for 64 year olds........but I'm probably wrong. On the other hand.......I consider myself darned lucky to have lived to 64!
Thanks for your input!
