I was on 9.4 cpap pressure. I got a new machine about 2 weeks ago, and my AHI and Leak rates are great now. I went down on the pressure to 9.0, and my numbers are just as good. I know that's a small decrease.....but I had gone up to that on my old Resmed S8 and it helped. (But I think the pressure in that wasn't accurate). So my question is.......can I continue to go down a bit, if there are no changes in my numbers the next morning? And if I do that and there are no changes in my numbers.........can I expect to not feel any different symptoms during the day? What I mean is, can a person feel worse on a lower setting, yet have the same good morning stats?
Another question: Can I compare my AHI numbers on my S9 with the numbers on my S8? Because on the S8 I never in 7 years, could get below 4-5 AHI and in the last year, it was 6-7. But now I'm getting below 1.0 sometimes, but usual around 1.8.
I have almost the same numbers for everything each morning. My husband thinks they're pulling a fast one and putting good numbers on, regardless of how I sleep.

Re: Question about coming down on pressure
When ResMed changed to the S9 series the algorithm was changed so you really can't compare the S8 results to the S9 results because they aren't the same machines anymore.
I suspect that with the S8 machine the bulk of your AHI was likely hyponeas and for some reason with the S9 machines we don't see the higher hyponea numbers consistently like we used to see on the S8 machines.
Is it because Resmed changed reporting or the way the machine works so they are better prevented. We don't know as they never told us exactly what they did or how it might have changed.
Reducing your pressure...I can't see a thing it would hurt. If you start feeling bad or AHI gets ugly then you know you went too far.

Doesn't seem logical to me. In fact, I would bump it up a bit more.Country4ever wrote:I was on 9.4 cpap pressure. I got a new machine about 2 weeks ago, and my AHI and Leak rates are great now. If you were in the 0.0 - 0.3 average AHI range, I would say "try it", but you're much higher than that.

Re: Question about coming down on pressure
Thanks Pugsy and Den.
Den....I hadn't thought of it that way. I was thinking a 1.9 was great, compared to my 7-8 numbers on the S8.........but I guess I can't do that any more.

Well, the old adage on the forum has been......."if you're changing your settings and your numbers get worse, you're going in the wrong direction".Country4ever wrote:Thanks Pugsy and Den.

So, do what you wish, but keep that in mind.
Personally, after I bumped my pressure up to 12 from 10 (back in 2006), and got used to 12, I can't imagine going back to a lower pressure.
Your call......it's YOUR therapy.
