I have the Respironics equivalent, but from everything I have seen the Resmed S9 Autoset S is widely considered to be the best machine in the category.
No, the Resprionics equipment is just as good as the Resmed stuff. And the stuff made by DeVillbass and F&P is also high quality stuff.

While there are a lot of people out there who love their S9, most of them have never used a PR System One. There are also lots of people out there who love their System One, most of whom have never used an S9.

Of the folks who've used both, some have a strong preference for either the S9 or the System One. The preference is NOT universal. And many of the folks who've used both will tell you (honestly) that while there are a few differences in how the machines work and feel, there's not enough of a difference for them to have a strong preference.

I didn't mean to imply that the other machines were inferior. I am one of the happy System One users that has never used an S9. However, from what I had read from people familiar with the main machines in the category the S9 seemed to be generally preferred due to nice additions like color displays, nicer menus, better leak alerts, more adjustments like Ti-Max and Ti-Min which aren't present in the System One, etc. Those kinds of differences certainly aren't essential by any means, and I know some people do prefer the "feel" of the System One. Perhaps I should have clarified that all the machines in that class are close enough that it is relatively minor details that make one "better" than another, but since the OP is getting the S9 regardless I didn't see any reason to strongly limit the reassurance that the machine he is getting is a great choice.

I have owned...both brands in the bilevel models. It's a toss up. Minor pros and cons with either but none are deal breakers.

I have owned Respironics cpap/apap machines...I have used my S9 VPAP in cpap mode to see what EPR feels like which would be like the Elite functions.... It's a toss up.

I prefer the data that the Respironics machines offer in its software but that's just me. I like the way the snores and flow limitations are flagged as individual events instead of the graphs that ResMed offers. I never looked at the LCD display on either brand...I prefer the software.

ResMed has a little noise on exhale...Respironics has a little noise on inhale...it's a toss up.

I do prefer the greater humidity that the 60 Series PR S1 offers...that' 90% is something my nose likes but I do well with the S9 and 80% too. It's a toss up.

If someone is using pressures in the teens..or having trouble with aerophagia...and they don't have the option for bilevel machine then I would suggest the S9 Elite or AutoSet because of EPR. It's a bit more dramatic and I think there could be situations where EPR would be nice to have.
The S9 VPAP doesn't offer EPR...it really isn't needed because the pressure support is working sort of like EPR works anyway.
Respironics still offers it's Flex exhale relief in their BiPaps but to be honest it isn't a critical need. The bulk of the relief is in the pressure support anyway.
