New to using CPAP, need help with mask.

Post by caryrae73 » Thu Mar 20, 2014 10:03 am

I got my first Cpap a few weeks ago. I use the F&P auto icon+ machine. I started out with just a nasal mask but ended up breathing through my mouth which made my mouth super dry. Now I use the simplus full face mask which is better but every night it will leak at different times so I have to make it really tight which is uncomfortable. I was only allowed to exchange masks once within 30 days. Is there any tricks to help theses masks stop leaking? It always starts out working fine with no leaks, then sometime in middle of the night I get woken up by leaking. Would be nice to try a different mask but I can't keep spending money trying new ones.

Yes! Either purchase the correct size "MaskZZZ Liners" OR take a towel with a short nap and cut it out a bit bigger than your mask and place that on your mask and it will cut out most of not all of your problems.

You can make a mask liner out of an old Tshirt..or buy pre made liners.
I usually suggest a person make their own first to see if it helps.

Padacheek makes some real nice mask liners that can be used over and over again for months and months.

Remzzzs are sort of designed for single use disposable..might get 2 or 3 nights of use if you are lucky.
Send Beck a note telling her which mask you use and she will send you a free sample packet to try...no sense in spending money till you know it works for you..you can get to her private message function here at her profile.

Most manufacturers allow 30 day per mask for swapping out no matter how many are tried...your DME has decided to not do much to help you because they don't want to do the extra paperwork involved. Unfortunately they are free to make their own in house rules but it's their rules and not your insurance and not the mask manufacturers. So don't let them put the blame somewhere other than right on their own shoulders.
