Help understanding data
I had 3 CI's last night 30 mins apart. No AI's so very thankful for that. Pressures on auto from 9.6 to 12.0. I am wondering if my pressures are set to high and maybe making me have some CI's. Even though the pressure went to 11.8 last night the CI's only occurred at 9.6 and not during the higher pressure. My 95% 11.8. I never has CI's in my sleep lab test but wondering why they are showing up on my Resmed s9. Thanks for your help !!http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag1 ... 44025a.jpg

Re: Help understanding data
Not all centrals are related to pressure and changing pressure won't necessarily stop them.
Sleep onset or sleep stage transition centrals are normal and unless the are present in large numbers...we don't do anything about them.
Sometimes the machine flags a cessation of breathing with airway open (central) when it is nothing more than a person holding their breath...like when turning over in bed. The machine doesn't know if you are asleep or not or if you were just holding your breath on your own.
Finally..an occasional "central" is normal and if you only had 3 for the entire night...that's nothing to be alarmed about and I wouldn't give it a second thought. Even 3 per hour isn't the end of the world and doctor's still wouldn't likely do anything except shrug their shoulders.
Having a few centrals that are the real deal and not the S9 flagging something by mistake, isn't a horrible thing....in fact it's actually something that is considered normal. It's only when the centrals are excessive in number and/or causing serious drops in oxygen levels or disrupting sleep that we look at doing something about them.

Re: Help understanding data
Well that is a great relief to know. I held my breath for 15 seconds and that's a long time if I'm just turning over. But like you said transition from sleep stages , it's possible you do stop breathing and does seem to be normal even with people that do not have sleep apnea. I'm not going to worry about it. If I feel fantastic when I wake up ,job done. I just changed from a S8 autoset II to a S9 autoset and I feel my treatment has tremendously improved. Thanks for all your help Pusgy. You have been a real life saver for me and lots of other people also.
