Anybody tried the Liberty mask?

Post by dinycat » Fri Jan 24, 2014 1:39 pm

I'm having trouble with nose and cheek areas with Quattro mask, and I've been advised to try the Liberty mask. Any comments?

I am late to the party but hopeful that you'll check back.

The Liberty mask was the thing that made me compliant. I started with a nasal mask and that was a big no-- I have a deviated septum and I'm a mouth breather at night, and a chinstrap just didn't help. I moved on to the Quattro FFM and it was good but I developed an ulcer on my nose and had horrible eye leaks.

The nasal pillows were a bit hard to get used to and getting the right seal is a little tricky-- but it was a good fit for me. The cheeks might be a pain point for you because the cheek straps are stiff, but they are lightly padded with foam and can accommodate fleece padding or moleskin if you want to try to cut it to fit.

I didn't like it. Couldn't get it to seal properly. Bought an Innomed Hybrid and use it when I have a sinus infection, like the Innomed so much better. I use Swift FX for Her when I can breathe thru my nose (which is most of the time.)

I tried the Liberty. I got the pillows to seal just fine, but couldn't keep the mouth part sealed. At all. I use the Hybrid now, but I can't keep the pillows from leaking (the are a few fixes I've found that I'm gonna try out). The mouth part seals just fine.

With all things being equal, meaning that you can get both of them to seal properly, I'd go with the Hybrid. It's MUCH quieter. Just make sure the hose is facing down from the mask instead of over your head.

Have you tried a mask liner yet?

No, someone offered me a free trial, but I haven't heard anything more. I will look into them tomorrow. Thank you.

I'm trying one right now. It totally solves my leak problem, but it is so uncomfortable I can barely
keep it on all night. I get up and switch back to my Quattro. It leaks as yours does some nights but
I have no problem keeping it on. I have never used anything with "pillows" so perhaps I'll get used to
it after a while. I've only used it 3 nights so far. It seems to put a lot of pressure on my upper lip as
well, no matter how loose I set it. It took me a few days to tolerate the Quattro, but it was a bit more
comfortable from the start. We'll see if the Liberty gets more comfortable over time. One other
thing about it is that if it does leak, I have to get fully conscious to fix it. With the Quattro I can
most of the time not wake fully to take care of a leak.
