Full face masks

Post by DanWinn » Fri Jan 17, 2014 4:12 am

Hello,

I have a full face mask (no nasal pillows) and it has the air holes at the top of my nose. This is really annoying because it blows air in my eyes all night. I have tried using an eye mask but it does not seem to be helping.

Does anybody know of one that does not have the air holes at the top of the nose? Btw, I cannot wear one that has the headgear across my forehead because it rubs my face raw.

I use the quattro fx. It blows straight out from my nose, so not into my eyes. And nothing across the forehead.

Which mask are you using? I would think that masks would not be designed to blow in your eyes, but sometimes, bad leak gets aimed into the eyes. I had to learn to lower my mask on my face to prevent leaks into my eyes.

The quattro fx is actually the one I use and because of my sleep position, it always blows into my eyes.

Then it is not fitted properly. It could be the wrong size, positioned wrong, or not the right mask for you. I sleep on my side most of the night, and my leak line is pretty much a flat line at zero. Try lowering it on your face a little. Not once you have it on, but place it lower and then tilt and hook the straps. Have you watched the video for fitting the quattro? It is a tough mask to master because it needs to be place properly, tilted into place, and loose enough for the seal to inflate. If it is too snug, then it will have gaps causing more leaks.

This mask took me about 6 weeks to master it, and part of it was getting smaller headgear as the standard headgear was too big for my head. Now I usually only have leaks if I drool too much or sweat too much, which will cause the mask to slide a little. But rolling over doesn't cause me any problems.

Over the few months or so I've been experimenting with the Quattro FX and I think what the people above have said is basically true. However, In my case, I can't seem to get a good seal with the mask fitting loosely, no matter how hard I have tried. On the other hand I'm not too uncomfortable for my face with the lower part of the mask a bit tighter than usual. Also, here's a tip that I just got a few days ago and it helped with the 'popping' problem so common with the QFX. This popping issue and the problematic cushion fit can often be the precursor to noisy leaks down the road - check this older thread:

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

I've been using the Quattro FX for 6 weeks. The pressure level makes a big difference. Since I have an APAP set to 5-20, I have to have it on pretty tight or it will leak into my eyes at 12 and higher. Otherwise I am pretty happy with it. I look forward to having my APAP range narrowed up at my 2 month appointment.
