Computer connection via SilverLining to GoodKnight 425

Post by lferrel » Sat Jun 24, 2006 6:33 am

I just got my GoodKnight 425 BiLevel. I have used it one night. I have installed the SilverLining software. I have a lap top and am using a serial to USB converter connection. I cannot get the connection established to the GoodKnight. The connection window comes up and says the serial connection is in use. Can anyone advise me on the procedure to get up and running.

Incidently, does the GoodKnight establish a connection in standby mode or does it need to be on and running?

Have you had success using the serial to USB adaptor on another type of equipment? If not have you installed the drivers that came with the convertor?

If you answered yes to either of the above questions, go to Control Panel/
System/Hardware/Device manager/Ports. When 'Ports' is expanded you should see the USB>Serial device and the Com port it is attached to. If not
the USB>Serial device has not been installed properly. It probably just needs the driver re-installed.

Post your findings and someone will take you the rest of the way.

Yes, the converter software was installed, and I have used it with another device. When I followed your advice, I found the USB converted was configured to Com 5. When I tried that connecting it worked. Thank you!
