ResMed Rebate

Post by MitzyG » Thu Jan 02, 2014 2:38 pm

Guys...I was not brave earlier this week. But I finally called the doctor's. I said "Oh, I want to get into the patient portal" (hoping that the prescription/receipt would be there). I did manage to retrieve my medical records - YEAH! Now I can go to another doctor and get them to write a prescription. The lady, who is normally a witch was being quite helpful. So I go for the gusto and call back for the receipt so that I can get my rebate. The receipt has to show the model you got, mask you got (if Resmed, which mine is), price paid and provider. Sheesh...I want my up to $50 after the nightmare I've been through on this machine.

I call back, got a different lady, who is normally pleasant. WHOA! I tell my tale of woe...need receipt for my REBATE. So she insists that I provide the rebate slip. Just sent it off (<10 mins from when I called). CANNOT WAIT for my receipt! I am assuming that they do NOT want to provide said receipt since she insisted on proof of a rebate. I'm betting there will be some excuse on why they cannot provide the receipt...wonder if they'll just give me $50 to shut up. hmmmm...

Oh well...I got the machine, I got my studies...off to another doctor.

It sounds like you bought the CPAP through your doctor? And YOU paid for it, not any insurance? I can't imagine why the receipt is so protected!!! Tell them you need it for your taxes!! Which, if you paid for it, would be true - rebate or not. You may have never itemized for taxes, but if you bought a machine in 2013, this may be the year!! Then add in ALL your doctor bills, your mileage to the doctor, let alone all the other deductible things you paid for last year.

Actually...this is a bizarre billing scheme. The insurance requires rental for 8 mos. No problem. So the doctor's office calculated all 8 mos of my payments and charged ME upfront for every rental payment. When I insisted on returning the brick (which they said they were loaning me but then converted to a purchase), they charged me $90 to return it. Then, they charged $50 to get the autoset vs the elite auto. I was a bit over a barrel because they charged me all 8 mos of payments BEFORE I knew I was getting a brick and before they became asses. I know that the rental is common, but I'm not hearing of people being charged for all 8 mos BEFORE seeing the machine.

Ultimately, the doctor now calls this a "purchase", despite that he charges "rental payments" to insurance. I paid approx $600-$650 for this machine, which I think is a substantial chunk. I just want a receipt for whatever I paid. They said that I got the credit card receipts but I said that that didn't indicate that I got the ResMed Autoset and Swift FX for Her mask.

I am GUESSING that the reason they don't want to give a receipt is because they're covering something up...like how they swapped out supplies and are charging insurance for that. But they report that to insurance...no secret there! The patient portal didn't have the billing...just what they charged to the insurance but nothing about what they billed me. Something is funny... I just want my "Up to $50".
