How is the toungue best positioned for sleeping expecially with a Nasal mask. Does it matter?
If so please explain.

You could ask Miley Cyrus...
Seriously...ideally the tongue should be pressing behind your upper teeth.

Re: Positioning of tongue
I've noticed if my tongue is placed correctly, I can open my mouth without a rush of air back out. I'm not really sure what I'm doing to explain it, but the best I can describe is the tip of tongue is just touching the back of my top front teeth (at the gum line) and the rest of the tongue is spread across the roof of my mouth. If that makes sense.
I don't think I'm able to keep it there while I'm sleeping, however.

Re: Positioning of tongue
Search for Tongue technique and you will come up with lots of information for the technique. When it works almost seems magical!! It works very well for me to this day and I have been a hose head for over 2 years now . I still use a chin strap each night which may improve its effectiveness by keeping the jaw from relaxing to the point where your mouth would open to far for the technique to work. All I know is for me it works .

Just be careful where you are doing that search! You might want to qualify it by saying "... for sleep apnea"!!

I'm of the school of thought that once actual sleep begins it's hard to say what will happen with your tongue. Some people report it stays on the roof of their mouth thru training and others say it goes wherever the hell it wants to go. I suppose that's why chinstraps, taping and full face masks exist.. and CPAP itself for that matter.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Doing the training while awake at every opportunity, helps it to happen at nite too. The body accepts it as a normal parking place. Re: Positioning of tongue
+ 1, That is exactly how I trained myself to do it! The key for me at night is to make sure there is no saliva between my tongue and the roof of my mouth. With my tongue in place I pull any saliva back towards my throat (imagine sucking liquid from a straw) and then swallow the saliva. Sometimes if I have just had a drink of water before bed I will have to do this twice to remove the saliva and make the tongue stay (stick) at the roof of my mouth.Goofproof wrote:Doing the training while awake at every opportunity, helps it to happen at nite too.
