Flow Limit
Flow Limit
Can anyone tell me what the significance is of the flow limit on my Event Breakdown in the Sleepy Head program??
Re: Flow Limit
What machine are you currently using? Nothing is showing up in the equipment profile and the humidifier you have chosen was discontinued back in 2007 I think it was. If you are new to therapy it is unlikely that you have a machine that works with the humidifier you have chosen. If you have a newer machine..most likely is a PR System One machine and you need to look in the grouping that begins with PR and not Remstar...that Remstar thing has been used on everything since Respironics started making this equipment. It's useless for determining model name.
If unsure...check the bottom of the blower unit for a little sticker with a 3 digit model number on it. Probably preceded by DS or REF and if you tell us the model number we can tell you exactly which model machine you are using. Perhaps the link to it is broken and then you can just add it to your comments section in the equipment profile...like I have my spare machine added.
Generally Flow limitations are reductions in the air flow that don't meet criteria for the other event categories.
With the Respironics machines they are only flagged when in auto adjusting pressure mode because flow limitations and snores are apnea event warning signs or precursors to an impending collapse of the airway...and thus are one of the things the machine will respond to and increase the pressure in an attempt to prevent the further collapse of the airway.
In fixed pressure mode this feature is turned off...so there won't be any flow limitation flags. Doesn't mean there weren't any though...just means they weren't flagged. Kinda not the best way to do it IMHO but they didn't ask me.
If you are using auto adjusting pressure mode...and seeing a few random FLs here and there then probably not a big deal but if you are seeing a lot of them or in clusters then that usually indicates that the pressure is not quite sufficient to hold the airway open.

I may have to RISE but I refuse to SHINE.
Re: Flow Limit
Excuse me hijack the thread, but I have often wondered what the word means IMHO. I have never been able to interpret what you mean when you write IMHO.Pugsy wrote:

Thanks in advance.

Everything I write I translate through Google Translate.
Hope you have patience with that, sometimes it can get a little crazy.

In My Humble Opinion
probably not all that humble sometimes if truth be known but just my way of offering my opinion.
Some people do IMO...In My Opinion but on the web I see IMHO more often and that's what I have used for years so it's a habit.
I have some other 4 letter acronyms...not quite so nice which I use only in dire circumstances as it isn't very ladylike.
