what mask?
what mask?
I am waiting on script to be sent to DME. I was just thinking. I have the Swift FX nasal mask already as that is what I used at my sleep study and took it home with me. I liked it during my study. When I get my new equipment should I get some other type of mask to use. Maybe some type of nasal mask? What would you do?

Re: what mask?
Make sure the prescription says "Mask of Patient's Choice". Get a separate prescription for a machine that is data-capable. Get a copy of both prescriptions. Start with a mask that you think you may like. Ask the DME if you can return it within 30 days to switch for a different mask. Most DME's will allow you to swap, but make sure. Work all your issues here.

Re: what mask?
Find out exactly what the mask trial policy is with your equipment supplier.
Most mask manufacturers have a 30 day period where the mask can be returned if it doesn't work out. Some DMEs will go by this policy but most seem to make their own in house rules and they can do that. So it may be a set time period like 30 days from the time you get your first mask, or it might be 30 days with each mask, or they may only allow one swap or no swaps.
Find out exactly what your DME has in place and use it to the best of your ability while you can try masks at no cost to you.
Typically they only bill one mask to your insurance because that is all your insurance will pay for until the replacement allowance time rolls around but the mask manufacturers will give them credit for returned masks...so they don't lose any money but some DMEs don't want to do the paperwork involved when masks get returned so they tell you...this is it..all your insurance will pay for..and won't help you out with trials.
If you are curious about a nasal (over the nose) mask...see what they offer and try what's interesting to you while you can.
Use your insurance to pay for the most expensive masks while you can.
If they are steadfast firm with you only get 1 mask...get a spare of what you have or something similar that you know you like and will use. Don't waste your insurance money on something you might not care for.
Often you can find a forum member with a failed experiment they will offer for a big discount if you want to experiment further.
If your DME has a generous mask swapping policy...use it while you can. Don't spend 3 weeks out of your month fiddling with a mask that is problematic...try something else while you can. You can always go back to something if you want to.
