After that, I noticed I was waking up feeling a bit better pretty quickly (I used to snore heavily and always woke up with a dry mouth/throat and slight headache), but the big changes in sleep quality were subtle and took longer.

In fact I didn't realize how much CPAP was actually helping until I accidentally fell asleep without it one night, and didn't really sleep at all the whole night, and woke up feeling like something the cat dragged in, stomped on, ran through the garbage disposal, and then tarred and feathered. Or similar.
You make an excellent point. I noticed many things improving over time. A few things right away. Recently, I had some problems with falling asleep while watching tv, and the mask not fitting (my cushion was really old, and I switched to another less old one). I basically missed a night, had a very short usage one night, and then missed a night. Not only did I feel like crap again, but I realized I was grumpier than normal. All the old stuff was coming back. Sometimes, I takes a missed night to realize how much it has been helping.

Kinda like thinking that coffee doesn't affect you all that much, and then you have a day with no coffee and you experience the difference.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

I found that my headaches pretty much disappeared with cpap treatment. I do occasionally get a weather related headache, but the normal ones are gone.
I think they were from the headgear -- it wasn't too tight, but there was slippage sometimes,so I think I was holding my head rigid to keep pillows and straps from slipping. Now I have been on Tap Pap for three nights and no headaches from that. Very happy with Tap Pap so far.
