It's almost a year since I've been on cpap therapy, specifically apap for the past 6 months, it was time to review my therapy. Despite losing 107.5 pounds, I still need therapy. For the most part, I sleep with a pressure of 7, and when I have an event, the pressure rises to 10. The highest level my apap machine has gone to is 14. So, due to age, genetics, and whatever loose skin I have, I will be on therapy for the rest of my life. I posted this for the benefit of those currently using cpap who think they might wean off the machine once they lose weight.
Perhaps a younger person might not need the machine after losing weight, but the reality is, I'm 62, and although physically fit from working out, loose skin and a narrow passage prevent me from getting off the machine.
However, I'm not upset by this news because I haven't had any sinus problems since being on therapy. No bronchitis, no post-nasal drip, no headaches, either from lack of sleep or from sinus problems, no colds, nothing.
I consider myself blessed to have new-found energy to work out and get fit, lose weight, and be active and energetic again. No sinus problems. It's a win-win situation, and I'm not going to complain.
Happy Thanksgiving!
