New Machine recommended settings and a few questions

Post by TonyE » Wed Nov 20, 2013 11:58 pm

Ok

I have just got a 'gently used' S9 Autoset from http://secondwindcpap.com and having a look over it I think they have sent me a outbox brand new machine

Any way My recommended script is just 6cm2ho now should I set it up as a fixed macine and see how I go for a couple of sleeps or should I set it at auto at say 4-8 (or another recommended range) currently it I have set it to 4 -8 with a 20 minute ramp epr full time lvl 2

Humidity level is set to 4 this is seems as good a place to start and see how I go or is there a reason to lower or higher this

Tube they sent me 2 tube a slimline and a climateline on the setting it ask what tube you have but only give the choice of slimline or standard now I am assuming it is better to us the climateline who this be classified as a slimline?

Distilled water where do you buy it, I am in Australia just in case that makes a difference

Hi, couple of tips... I would set that humidity level only if you're in a very dry place as it might otherwise congest you (your nose), at least until you've experimented more... I'd try 2 for now and see if it's adequate. Don't set your pressure at 4 or 5 because it's too low to breathe at, but try starting at e.g. 7 for the lower setting and 11 for the upper. You can always change those as well after you've had a few nights to see where you fall AHI-wise. If it consistently goes to 11 most of the time I'd set that higher (e.g. 13) and see if it helps, but wouldn't go much higher without discussing it with people here and/or your doctor as it can, over time, possibly provoke central events, and you don't want to do that (though are likely to see a few at falling-asleep and just awakening times). Once you have an idea of where you fit pressure-wise, you could I suppose lock into Cpap mode on one level, but unless you find problems (again, discuss here with others) in auto mode, why not leave it on Apap?

Climateline is really for winter (and cold rooms) so I would use that if you're in a cold place (and now would not be the case I think).

If you use the Climateline hose the machine will recognize it immediately and make the change most likely to Automatic as that is the default. Just plug it in and it will make the choice for you.
If you are using the plain slimline hose then you choose the slimline option.
The other 22 mm option is use only when you are using a regular hose.

EPR at 2 won't even kick in fully unless the machine goes above 6 because it can't go below 4 cm on exhale since that is as low as it will go.
With ramp starting at 4...EPR won't do anything at all.

Since your cpap RX pressure is for 6 cm....and you are wanting to try EPR...I would suggest if you want to try APAP mode try minimum of 6 and maximum of 10. Your pressure needs are so low that there is really no room for the usually recommended 4 to 5 cm range.

Do you have the provider manual explaining the features? If not you can get it here
http://www.apneuvereniging.nl/forum/pdf ... manual.pdf

Or just try straight cpap mode at 6 cm .
Humidity selection... Humidity needs are very personal and individualized.
Julie needs little humidity and I need a lot ....there is no right or wrong...just we are different.
I usually suggest the middle of the road to start with. Too dry and the congestion and symptoms that can happen...can last several days...been there, done that and it wasn't pretty.
Too moist...doesn't happen as often and the congestion isn't as likely to last several days like the too dry symptoms do.
Just something you will need to play with.
A setting of 2 using the slimline hose is a relatively low setting...I wouldn't go lower to start with.
