After a whole year I'm finally able to sleep most nights with the machine. Though often I find myself (in my sleep) brushing off the nasal mask unconsciously. When I reviewed the data I find that this happens quite often and it's typically over an hour before I realise and reattach myself. This is no good as I'm not getting continuous benefit of the machine. I realise that I brush it off because the pressure eventually feels like Gail Force Nine coming through my nose.
I'd like to experiment with taking my prescription down a notch to see if the comfort level improves, but don't quite know how to do it. It's supposed to be set on a ramp up to level '7' (so I was to told by my nurse last year, whatever level '7' means). The manual doesn't explain how I can do a DIY on the prescription pressure. I don't want to take it back to the hospital - it's a private hospital and they charge me £££ if they so much have to glance at it.
So - does anyone know how to do this, take it down to '6' or something? The details of my equipment on my profile. Any tips much appreciated!
Tim

Re: Adjusting the prescription on the machine
I don't have your machine, but many people do and can give specific instructions.
You will want to find out what the current settings are. You have an auto machine, and you mention the pressure getting too high to be comfortable. This does not sound like a straight pressure of 7. The ramp usually only goes about half an hour or so, and I doubt you are reacting badly to a level of 7 which is reasonably low. The pressures start at 4 and go past 20 for some people. I suspect your pressure is 7 to something, and that something may be a little too high for your comfort.
Hopefully, your machine has data. If so, people here will tell you, and you can get a look at how well your current settings are doing. If you do lower your pressure a little, you will be able to see the results and see any effects.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

You need access to the clinicians menu on your machine.
Here is a link to a YouTube video on how to get to the menu.

Re: Adjusting the prescription on the machine
Thank you both for your replies, and the link to YouTube. Most helpful.
I just checked my settings. Auto Max is 20 and Auto Min is 4. Does that sound like the machine actually hasn't been customised?
Why am i brushing the mask off - is that because it's leaking and the pressure just keep going up?

Re: Adjusting the prescription on the machine
Correct. Those are the factory default settings. The maximum isn't as critical as the minimum though. When the minimum is set more optimally then the maximum often is not even anywhere near a factor depending on pressure needs.Headintheclouds wrote:I just checked my settings. You might do better with starting the minimum at 6 and see how you do.
Might be. Might also just be the brain not accepting the mask as a friendly entity to be stuck on your face.Headintheclouds wrote:Why am i brushing the mask off - is that because it's leaking and the pressure just keep going up?
Might be a combination.
