Encore Pro and My Encore - What APAP Should I Buy

Post by Sigmund » Sat Jun 10, 2006 5:29 pm

I have a basic cpap that doesn't include a smart card. But, I finally have a new prescription for an APAP. I very much want to track my sleep data, so I want to use the Encore Pro software and the My Encore software.

I am considering buying one of the Remstar Auto systems. If I want to use both pieces of software, does it matter if I buy the current Remstar Auto Cpap versus the soon to be released M Series Auto Cpap? I want to ensure that I can analyze all of my data.

This one will work for all models including the M.

Thanks for the info about a Smart Card Reader. But, what I wanted to know is whether both Encore Pro and My Encore only work with certain APAPs. For example, if I purchase the upcoming M Series APAP, will I be able to use both Encore Pro and My Encore? Or, is the M Series so new that it uses a different version of Encore Pro that is incompatible with My Encore?

The Encore Pro and MyEncore will only work with the Respironics machines (REMstar Pro 2, Remstar Auto, REMstar M Pro and REMstar M Auto). The REMstar M Auto isn't available yet.

The 1.5B7 version of MyEncore is what you will need to run with the Encore Pro 1.6i version.

Which I assume would be why I could never get My Encore to work. My DME issued me a REMstar Pro, not a REMstar Pro 2. Encore Pro displays only compliance data, since that's all that the REMstar Pro provides, and My Encore probably doesn't work because it's searching for other data fields that are empty in Encore Pro.

OCO, so go back and tell your DME that you want a Pro 2. Or better yet, a Remstar Auto. Even if you have to pay the difference in price, it would be well worth it.

Yeah, I plan to call my sleep doc tomorrow to find out what the prescription actually called for. Then I plan to call the DME to see what can be done. At this point I don't even know how much of this lease my insurance is paying for, so I have no idea what the impact would be from changing machines -- assuming they'll do it. The insurance company will be another call, of course.

That's another thing: I assume that at some point my insurer (Tricare) will buy the leased machine. According to its internal counter, the machine already has 4540 hours on it, 165 of which are mine. So if I'm right, then I'll eventually be given a machine that will have about 5000 hours of use on it. I don't know what the life expectancy on these things is, but I imagine I'd be looking at major repairs not too far down the road.

It seems like every time I start getting this whole process halfway straight in my mind I come up with another dozen questions. I'm grateful for the opportunity to scan this forum and see that I'm not alone.

OCO,

Is your insurance being billed for a new machine? If so and they want to buy or are willing to buy, I would do something now. I certainly wouldn't want them to pay for new when you have a machine with that number of hourse on it.

OCO, I realize that Tricare (Prime) requires that you rent the machine to prove your compliance, but surely they won't buy a used machine. Tell me it ain't so.

When the lease is up, I would insist on a new machine. Period.

I know cpap.com won't deal with Tricare, and that you have to go through a DME. Just find out how much this "lease" is going to cost you. Then find out what "intentions" the DME has for you and how much it will cost you. In the long run, you might be better off just getting an Auto from cpap.com

Does Tricare force you to use Prime? I have Standard and I don't need to lease or get prior authorization for me DME stuff. I can also go to a Specialist without having to get a referral. Ya, I probably pay a little extra, but it's sure nice not being HMO'd to death.
