If you offer more details on make model age and usage hours you will get better responses.

Oh, ok. Sorry. New here. I bought a used machine because I have apnea. Unfortunately, I just cant sleep with something strapped to my face. Its a claustrophobia thing I guess. Anyways, I have a used Remstar Plus with a Fiskar and Paykel humidifier. I just bought a Comfort Plus mask and new hose too. Only used those twice. So Im guessing they could be cleaned with an alcohol wipe? Well, Im trying to recoup my costs. I have 200 into all that I just listed so any offer close to that will be accepted. Plus shipping of course. I can text a pic of everything too.

You can list it on Craig's list in your area. Would be cheaper than shipping it out to someone.

There are other masks that have much less of a presence on the face to help avoid the claustrophobic feelings.
Have you tried other masks..nasal pillow mask maybe. They are much less confining.

If you have sleep apnea I hate to see you give up. Lots of forum members here have successfully beat the claustrophobic feelings by mask changes or desensitization techniques.

Otherwise I wish you luck. Your machine was discontinued by 2007. It's a non data machine. Even if it only had a handful of hours on it the value isn't there for most forum members here. You likely would be better off trying on craigslist.
The humidifier is a nice one but most people today use the machine integrated humidifiers.
The mask has value only for someone wanting that mask and once a mask package has been opened the value drops significantly because we don't know how long it has been opened. The silicone ages once exposed to air and not in a good way.

I second Pugsy. Don't give up. It's not easy to get used to CPAP, but without it you are looking at a shorter life plagued with related health problems. Not to mention feeling bad all the time.

CPAP isn't that bad compared with the alternative.

There certainly are other masks that are much easier to deal with.
Have you had someone reset the machine to YOUR pressure?
Many of us need less pressure to do the job.
Using the machine on the wrong pressure may be very uncomfortable, just useless, or worse.

Good morning pistonhead76

I am with the others to continue with your therapy. As Pugsy stated, your CPAP machine is very much outdated. There are plenty machines out there that are data compatible, which shows you if the current pressure you are using is good or not. What I would do if I were you, I would do two things. Is to do a search on the forum on the last 20 posts so you can see those who are responding to the original post what kind they are using as far as the machine and mask. Many folks on the form are very, very helpful to help you on the decision-making based upon what your physician told you:

1. What kind of machine is something that you need to talk to your physician about, whether it should be CPAP Auto, BiPAP, etc. and what the setting it should be at. Whatever the physician suggests, then you can return the to the forum to the 20 posts to see what the different and current machines that are out there. Had I done this from the beginning the first year, I would have saved me a lot of money rather than getting what we call "a brick" (which is a machine that gives no feedback). Also, the first year that I was getting used to CPAP machine, I would only use it for two hours a night, which was not doing anything for me. Then my husband's friend talked to me on how to get over the hump of using my CPAP.

2. As far as the mask is concerned, during your research you can see the different masks that people are using. As far as you are concerned, what mask to use is more of a personal choice. You will quickly find out what will work and not work for you. Many of us go through several masks as you will see before we find what mask will work for us.

You are not the only one at the beginning that has a tough time finding the machine and the mask that will work best for you. Many of us have gone through that stage. As LinkC has stated to not give up, that is a choice that only you can decide on. As many of us have stated when using a mask for the first time, use it at a time when you are relaxing, reading a book, etc. then it will help you to feel less claustrophobic. Also, putting the mask on your face will make all the difference in the world to check for leaks. Again, many on the form can assist you in preventing those nasty links. We all have trouble with leaks in the beginning.

The consensus on the forum would suggest that you do not give up and continue to find out what will work best for you on your quest to find sleep nirvana.

Forgot to make mention of one other thing. Should you still decide to NOT go with something that would assist you with your sleep apnea. Then you have no other option than to pick your poison:

Loss of Memory
Never ending headaches
Heart attach
Stroke
Early death

Scary stuff. I think the choice is rather obvious on what to choose, don't you???

I spent 2 years fighting my machine like it was a hornets nest duct taped to my head. I even gave up on it for a few months. After being diagnosed and learning more about the disease and my particular flavor I tried harder but found myself maskless by midnight most nights. Tben 2 friends and 1 aquantince died and cause of death on record was complications due to sleep apnea I decided to really try. Also my snoring was so bad that we could not spend the night in relatives or friends homes.

With all this stuff wearing on me I found sites like this and downloaded sleepyhead. Next I started buying different masks. Every one had its plus and minus sides. I finally walked into a local DME who had a tech with apnea. He measured my ugly face and fat head. Apparently I was so ugly he hax to recommend a mask that hid most of my ugly and in the process fit better than any oc tbe other 5 by leaps and bounds. A properly fit and comfortable mask was the beginning. Then I kept adjusting pressures till I found a combination that was tolerable and stopped my snoring. I thought I was fully cured but in the process of learning what I had and continued to monitor my results it was obvious I had only managed to get my 2 smallest issues dealt with.

To that point I was just a lurker and window peeper around her. Had not set up an account nor looked past my mask and snoring issues. I continued to read, went and found a sleep doctor after several tries. Now after more work than I ever imagined I seem to be on the right track. I sleep better, feel better and my wife moved back into tbe master bedroom. The snoring mixed with the quitting breathing anx such was more than she could tolerate and sleep herself. Now I have a severe case of complex apnea of which my doctor says has been his most challenging of his career. So I doubt you will have as much issue. Before giving up and dying in your sleep, go get fit for a good mask and put a little effort into managing what is a real disease.
