PR System One REMstar File format

Post by rubatoguy » Thu Oct 10, 2013 10:22 am

I'm trying to figure out the file structure of this machine. I used to be able to read the card with both Sleepyhead and the Philips software, but lately neither program seems to be able to read the SD card.
I can read the card in my computer - but I noticed that it has two folders, where before I do not believe it had any. Can anyone help with how the file structure works on these systems? I can upload the structure that I see on the card if that is a help.

thanks,
Todd

There can be more than one folder in the P Series folder (the main folder).
The P0 Folder is a subfolder in the Pserialnumber folder and that's where the data files are stored.
Typically 3 file types for each session xxx.001, xxx.002 and xxx.005. The xxx.005 are the flow rate graph files or wave form graphs.
Perhaps the SD card has a bad sector on it.
You can buy a cheap generic SD card..slide it in your machine...let it write the stored data to the SD card (xx.005 files are not stored on the machine) and then try your software to see if it will work.
You can also try erasing the existing SD card and starting totally fresh with it.

So I looked at my SD card, and here is the directory of what is on it. What I think is confusing the software is that it does not know what subfolder to look into. Can I combine them all into a single subfolder?
Volume in drive I has no label.

Actually the most common problem with SleepyHead and the Respironics machines is that people are trying to direct the upload to the PSeries folder or some other folder.
Stop at the root directory letter where the SD card sits.
In your case I directory. If any thing other than I is in the directory to choose from you have gone to far.
Don't go to the PSeries folder and for sure don't try to go further into the SD card.

Have you tried "create a new location" and make sure that the navigation points only to that root drive letter where the SD card sits?

You have about 3 years of data on your card.

The folders P0, P1, etc. are the machines way of saying it has stored enough in a folder and needs to make a new folder. It is an internal addressing limitation.

The file LAST.TXT tells the software the location of the most current data.
It's likely that it is corrupted somehow.

Try creating a new SD card and letting the machine download all the files in its memory to the new card.
Then mark everything as READ-ONLY and copy the files from the old card to the new one, telling the copy command to skip any duplicate files.

This should copy only the waveform data files to the new card.

Finally remove the READ-ONLY status.

This may get you back in service.

Hi rubatoguy,
JDS74 wrote:Try creating a new SD card and letting the machine download all the files in its memory to the new card.
What JDS74 said. Did you ever "back up" your card to your computer's hard drive? The .005 files won't show up on the new card for the dates that are just in the machine's memory, so having them saved is important if you want to see your wave forms for those dates in the future. SleepyHead should be tolerant of you reloading the .005 files onto the new card to match the dates the machine downloads its memory to your new card (so the .005 files are back in with the machine's .001 and .002 files)... but I don't know about Encore. If you save the P-Series files to your computer you can put things back to whatever the machine had as "normal" if transferring files messes up anything.

I see you've got many error files (the .004 files in the "e" folder). I've never seen the .004.uploaded file listing before (with that "uploaded" appended). Had you turned in your card for a DME to read or were you on modem back at that time? If you ever wish to decode the error messages, here is the list of PRS1 "e" codes:

Also, take a look at "last.txt" and "properties.txt". These both provide information about where the programs should look for the latest data.

The "EDF" format is at least part of the puzzle.

"Polyman" is one tool that will look at the data.

I never dug into it much farther than that.

Thanks for all the suggestions I will try them. When I go to my doctor, they take out the SD card and upload it to their files to print out the data.
I'll try out your suggestions and report back on the success.

Does anyone know if there is a size limit to how large an SD card you can use in the machine?

Todd
