Hi all!
New to the forum and new to cpap.
I'm trying to figure out if I have heated tubing. My tubing doesn't look like the pictures I found that indicate heated tubing, but I just want to make sure. (Mine is all gray without a fancy clip.)
After my first night I had quite a bit of rain-out. I discussed my cold room (64 F) with the RPT before starting tx. I asked about the tube covers but he said that's something we'd have to order.
I did a search to see if others had this question, but I'm not a pro at searching here yet and found mostly replies that dealt with people who had switched to heated.
Thanks!

My 3rd poly (10/27/13) finally indicated OSA. Even with titrating during the study they were only able to decrease AHI to 15 pressure @19, but I fought the mask so I'm set at 18. Treatment began 11/1/13 with humidity setting of 4 out of 5.

Re: Heated tubing?
If there is a plug in it, its heated.... It sounds like regular cpap tubing.WhirledPeas wrote:Hi all!

Honestly it may be just fine as it is without any rainout issues. Give it a chance.

Re: Heated tubing?
Your profile shows that you have the "Plus" model. That is a non-data-capable machine. If you really want to know how your therapy is working, I would strongly suggest you make them exchange it for a Pro (model 460) or an Auto (model 560). Either of those machines also have the heated hose feature available. That would be one way to accomplish those two objectives.WhirledPeas wrote:Hi all!

Re: Heated tubing?
I must have chosen the wrong one. Mine is the 460, tho they told me it was the 560.
I'll fix it!
Thanks and thanks for the feedback!!

Re: Heated tubing?
The PR System One heated tube is white with a black coupling on the end that attaches to the humidifier. If you don't have a black end on your hose...you don't have the heated hose.
With the 60 series machine the heated hose is an option and also requires a different power supply and different lid on the humidifier.
$75 online for the entire upgrade kit which includes the hose.
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/pr-hea ... e-kit.html
Notice the black end on the hose.
You may or may not really need the heated hose if your humidity needs are relatively low. For some people they do fine without the heated hose..some people find that a hose cozy is enough help and some people (like me) prefer lots of humidity and a cold bedroom and have had major battles with rain out (condensation in mask or hose) and really appreciate the heated hose.

Thank you! I 'broke the seal' after I felt the first moisture form and it was like I'd poured water down my face. I may try to rig some sort of tubing cover while I wait to find exactly which one I want to buy. I took a nap and dialed back the humidity -- along with switching to the other mask (Swift FX). This seemed to be a better choice, but I have this feeling once I turn the heat on and the air dries out, I'll end up back at 4 or 5. Because of my knack of getting sinus infections rather easily (deviated septum after nasal reconstruction surgery many years ago), I generally run 2 high end humidifiers from Oct to April or so with the goal of keeping the humidity around 50%.
Thanks for the link -- nice to know there's a upgrade and not a do-over!
(Edit: Guess I need to work on how to quote -- the top paragraph is from Pugsy.)

You might want to save this think in case you need it in the future

She also has some awesome hose cozies.
Even with a heated hose (keeping condensation in the hose at bay) sometimes if the conditions are just right we can still have condensation in the nasal pillows themselves. This is mostly from the moisture in our own exhaled breath condensing.
Even people not using a humidifier at all can have this happen.
Your bedroom may not be cool enough to create the problem but mine sure is...even with the heated hose. The air loses enough warmth going from the mask end of the hose and up that short hose (we can put hose cozies on the short hoses though) and cools just enough to release the moisture in the air that's in the nasal pillows.
Won't hurt you but sure is a rude awakening to snort the water up your nose or get a cold shower out the vent holes.

Re: Heated tubing?
Well, after night two I had less rain out. When I woke up it was 61F in my bedroom. Argh, time to turn on the heat again.
I decided I would find something to wrap the hose temporarily -- Sports tape! The non-sticky foam like under-wrap stuff that kind of sticks to itself, but nothing else. (Not the rubber type; this is much less likely to get hung up on sheets/pillows, etc.)
I can't imagine the rain shower from the vents! The shower I got from moving the Mirage mask away from my face was bad enough!
Last night I did notice that I'd pulled the mask off and for the first time registered an AHI. I quickly slapped the pulse ox on and noticed that I was in the low 80s before rebounding.
Thanks for the link!
