Ford (forgot your first name) Do you know by any chance or have experience with the "Insufflation Exsufflation Cough Assist" device? I need to help my sister's 12 yrs old granddaughter who has a Down syndrome and needs encouragement to get the mucus out of her throat. She does not talk. Only whispers. Had tracheostomy but stopped using the cannula. Is there another way to cause her to cough without the device?

Wow, you seem to be a real survivor, Chantilly. I like that a lot. From time to time, you'll have your ups and downs like the rest of us, but with your communication skills and attitude I think you will do well. Keep up the good work and then, most importantly, help inspire others by sharing your advice.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Chantilly, you are an inspiration! Keep up the good work as good cpap therapy and restful sleep can only make you feel better in many other ways. Which masks have you tried ?

Chantilly, how is the suction done on you, does the catheter go thru the tracheostomy, mouth or nose? The catheter does not go into your lungs, am I correct?

Chantilly, my sister wrote that the Suction Machine would be too invasive for her granddaughter, age 12, with the Down syndrome at this point. They used such machine during last year when she was rehabilitated at Alyn* in Jerusalem when it was done thru the tracheostomy tube. Now she is back home and they see her often full of mucus and trying to cough it up. She has a finger oximeter which is set to alarm when the oxygen saturation falls below 84%. I assume that it is used to wake her up and then by breathing while awake it would raise the saturation level automatically. Am I correct?
