Dealing with the hose

Post by joesetx » Sun Sep 22, 2013 6:09 pm

OK I'm new to CPAP having started just last week and I'm still trying to figure out how to deal with this hose.
I'm using the Swift FX Nasal pillows.

Any tips on handling this hose without getting wrapped up in it while sleeping?

It can be like wrestling an octopus in your sleep.

Google 'Hose Buddy' - it's like an IV pole with a hook... or else do what so many others have and hook/tape it to the headboard (leaving room for when you turn over, etc.) or put a hook on the ceiling with a 'stirrup' for the hose. You might need to order an 8 or 10' hose to accommodate that one, but they're cheap to get.

It's honestly not that bad, and besides octopi need love too.

Just lie down, swing the hose up and over your head and out of the way towards the machine. Or down over the covers and off the side. That works too. You'll get the hang of it in no time.

Welcome to the forum.

There are various ways to get some sort of hose management system...you can make your own or by one.

The above link has various threads and discussions about rigging up some sort of DIY hose management system. Doesn't have to be fancy or expensive.

joesetx,

As you can tell, a lot of folks either hang the hose or route it over head.

If for some reason that doesn't work, you can also do what I do: I run the hose under then covers and hug it as though it were a long, stuffed toy snake. Since the hose is in one hand, turning over winds up being pretty straight forward: The hand that hugs it guides it to the new position whenever I turn over.
