Runny Nose as side effect of Epidural Steroid Injection

Post by avi123 » Wed Sep 11, 2013 2:07 pm

Yesterday, b/c of Sciatica I received a Spinal L4-L5 Epidural Steroid Injection. I did not know that a side effect of it is an endless sneezing with a constant Runny Nose. So there I was at midnight trying to mask up. There was no way that I could fall asleep with my XPAP. Blowing the nose endlessly did not stop the discharge. So I stopped the machine, took a 10 mg of Zolpidem tablet in addition to my regular Xanax and Neurontin which I took at 6 p.m., and slept without the mask and machine till 3 a. m. At that point my nose dried up. So on the way back from the B.R. I masked up, started the machine, and slept soundly till 8.a.m.

Be Cautious !

Wow. Ive had many eppis up and down my back and always wondered why my nose runs all the time. I dont have allergies. Dont have a cold. Never do. But my nose always runs. Runs clear snot. I can soak a paper towel when I blow my nose.

Sometimes clear, very thin liquid from the nose or in a blister is a result of histamine concentration.
Beware, THERE COULD BE AN ALLERGIC REACTION! Next time, it could easily be anaphylaxis!
Ask your doctor to have you tested--it could save your life.

Thanks Chunky! Im getting an eppie tomorrow.... Doctors dont give information anymore unless you ask specific questions. Gets you out the door faster and the next patient in. I will ask for sure and we'll see what is said.

I am scheduled for this next Wednesday. The doctor didn't tell me a thing about this. I was up all night last night with pain and worry because I Googled this last night.

"Ask your doctor" like in those TV Rx sales ads, as though YOUR DOCTOR has nothing else to do!

Besides chunky, why don't you point to any warning on the Internet about it?

In the instructions that I got there is nothing about either:

Notice here also: "Call Your Doctor", those stinkers.

I didn't see where they said not to worry about the runny nose, either.
Good luck with that.

Chunky, have you doctor test you for what?

About the Runny Nose, I see it on the Internet if I enter: Runny Nose after lumbar epidural steroid injection:

Mood and sleep disturbances are possible after epidural steroid injections. ... why are there so many reports of this side effect on forums(spine health, pain.etc)? ... of having a nasal steroid since I have itchy bad running nose in the mornings.
